It seems you need to register bikes at check-in. Anyone know what that’s about?

You don’t need to register for that.

Last time I was there, some ‘brave’ soul had left a Transition Spider parked by the centre, tied up with a cable lock…

I've never seen the point of taking our own bikes to CP, hire, thrash and leave outside. I ended up with a GT Zaskar last time at Woburn, great fun and makes you appreciate your own bikes when you get home.

You can’t drive cars round, so having a bicycle registration ticket gives you something to drop into the fruit bowl when you head out visiting of an evening.

Presumably in case you are bringing anything similar to the hire bikes. Registering them online pre-hol is very painless.

The hire 1*8 hybrids and GT Zaskers are fine for riding around campus or even venturing outside the campus, but I can't wait to finally take my road bike this year, there's some great hilly loops you can do from right outside the Longleat complex that I'm sure will be far more fun on drop bars.

It's Center, not Centre.

It's because they have a bike theft problem

The CP bikes are interesting.

All seem to be the same apart from the branding (Haro last time we were here, Forme now). Are they done to tender or something?

Are they done to tender or something?

I'd imagine so, they will buy a huge fleet of bikes, at a decent price, and rent them out for a few weeks to pay for them. Lots of profit.

You need to register before you go, not at check-in.
Make, model, frame number.
I keep mine inside overnight when we go.

Definitely; leaving them out overnight strikes me as asking for trouble.
