Central locking works, then doesn't

Hello all,

I am worrying myself to death over this. I have a new-to-me 2021 Vauxhall Combo Life - essentially the same as the latest mode Berlingo/Rifter etc.

I had the battery disconnected today to fit a towbar and electrics (Electrics kit 19500637 from PF Jones - and this needs to be coded to the car which hasn't happened yet.)

Now my central locking via the key fob is playing up. When the car has been active - ie, driving it -  I can get out, and lock the doors vis the button on the key. I can then unlock and lock to my heart's content. However, if I leave the car for a few minutes, the keyfob won't unlock the door, and I have to do it manually. Once in, the fob will work the locks no problem. I can get out the car and lock it using the key button, and for the next few minutes it will unlock using the button, but after maybe five minuttes ir won't respond to the key buttons, and I need to manually unlock it again. Has anyone got any ideas?

Have you tried re-syncing the key fob to the car?

Yes, I have tried that and a BSI reset. It isn't that the fob doesn't work, because it does once the car has been manually unlocked.

It is more that the centreal locking signal reciever is going to sleep after a few minutes of the car being locked, and can't be "woken" by the key fob signal.

I had something similar on my zafira. It turned out to be the key, there was damage inside the key fob and I had to replace the casing. Do you have a spare key? Does it do the same thing?

It may settle - I think there may be some anti-tampering safeguards relating to the battery being disconnected. I had one on hire and needed to jumps start another vehicle. I just loosened the battery terminal to swivel it to get a better grip with the jump leads and the central locking etc took the hump. Next morning though it was all fine again

Both keys do exactly the same. Due to the fact they both work to lock/unlock the car after it has been used. I am convinced that it is an issue with the reciever on the car now going to sleep for some reason.

I might have disturbed a SHUNT fuse or something - https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=63248&start=15

I am certain that both fobs are fine. Once the car has been unlocked with the key, they will lock it and unlock it no problem until the car goes to sleep - interior lights go off and dash goes dark. After that they won't unlock it.

If you've plugged in the towbar module, try unplugging it.

It could be that the extra unknown/unprogrammed module is disrupting things.

Fob batteries could be weak, for the price it's worth a check.

@mc If you were here, I'd give you a kiss. I have disconnected the 5 connections at the fusebox, and normality is restored. I havd already disconnected the fuse piggybacks, btu removing pins 47, 49 and 52 did it (see stage 18)  I assume these issues will be resolved when I get it coded. It will remain unconnected until then.

Absolutely sick with worry...
