I’ll give you a bit of background for the sakes of striking up a conversation here - as that only seems fair on a forum! - but really this post is to ask you to consider filling out my survey

https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/GYRBTB/

So, I’ve been doing cognitive behavioural therapy to deal with social anxiety. It’s frankly been amazing, with some very quick early wins, but it’s not quite “problem solved” after about ten weekly sessions.
A technique my therapist has given me to try is a survey - hence the link above. It’s about a hypothetical social situation, and hearing your responses to the survey will help me understand other people’s thoughts and actions in such a place.

I’ll tell you more once the surveys been out for a few days!

oh, got a new bike too, therapy innit 🙂

Also done, I hope it is of some use and looking forward to the further explanation. If you feel comfortable sharing of course.

Much appreciated already. Delighted in fact to hear from you all. Haven’t looked at the responses yet, intentionally.

im looking forward to discussing more but don’t want to bias the survey too much.

In the meantime, imagine the discussion with my therapist:

T: so, where shall we share the survey we’ve written?

me: well, there’s this bike forum…

T: oh, a bike forum?

me: yeah, well it’s not really a bike forum… there’s a magazine too.

Done, interesting question, I have my own theory about the specific nature of the questions but it will be interesting know more when you have a decent number of results.

I’m amazed by the number of responders already. Makes me feel really good.

i haven’t read them yet, because actually I can’t 😂 it’s on my therapists account.

I’ll see him later in the week and then I owe you all a lot of feedback.

I can imagine the conversation with the therapist...

'so I talk on this forum, but it's not really a forum it's a mountain bike magazine. An we don't talk about mountain bikes, we generally just slag off each other's gardens when they ask advice about what BBQ to buy. But apart from that it's pretty friendly '.

The survey is clearly a Voight-Kampff test and I'm not falling for it that easily.

I’m overwhelmed (in a good way) with the number of responses. I think my therapist will be impressed with the power of the “bike forum”.

Voight-Kampff

had to google that one. 😜

Also enjoying reflecting on the forum and this community. I’ve been knocking around here a long time. A (non-forum) friend shared a pic of his new bike recently. Obviously all I could do was comment on the condition of his lawn.

oh, btw, quite like Brian Adams. I’m not opening that thread 😜

Done

Having watched a man pour wine all over himself ( static shock off a metal door handle )

And worn a pint of beer while trying to defy gravity and carry 4 pints from bar to table I wait to hear abit of backstory.
