I've previously posted on here saying how happy I was with the car I bought from Cazoo. I guess the car itself didn't change much, but my view of Cazoo has done a handbrake turn and sped off in a different direction.
As per my recent post, a mouse has been feasting on the fuel line of my Polo, resulting in a dead car in the middle of nowhere on Sunday morning. RAC showed up and asked me where to tow it to, and I foolishly requested them to take it to the Cazoo service centre in Newcastle. My thinking (to give it a grand title) was that it would be more straightforward to have warranty work done there, and also that it would be easier for me to get to by public transport than some garage in the wilds of Northumberland.
Since then I have discovered that the "warranty" is provided by a 3rd party who have a "never accept claims" policy. Worse, I have also discovered that it's impossible to contact the service centre direct; you have to call a central number, wait 10-15 minutes on hold and tell someone your story, after which they call the service centre (more hold music) and then tell you that it will be ready tomorrow and that someone will call you.
And repeat. And repeat again. So now it's Wednesday, the car will be ready tomorrow (riiight). And there's nothing I can do about it. I can't call the service centre and get the real story. I can't even get my car and take it to a proper mechanic, as it's not driveable - it's essentially held hostage and I'm stuck without transport.
This episode has increased my feeling that maybe we need a second car. Guess where I won't be buying it from.
warranty work ??
Whilst it doesn't sound like you've had great service; I can't see how something eating part of your car is a warranty job.
Did the mouse timestamp its work?
Suely that cannot be a warranty claim? It's just bad luck right?
as per others, I'm not sure how a mouse eating some part of the car can be considered as a warranty claim.
But 3rd party warranties can be notoriously diificult to claim off with all sorts of exclusions and limits - no idea what the cazoo one is like though.

I suspect he has the extended warranty which does seem to cover this.
Not warranty work I'm afraid. No one would pay out on that.

I'd be right cheesed off in that case

nope, this is not a warranty claim - it could potentially be a claim off his normal motor insurance though , but again he'd have the check the small print, he might be able to squeak a claim through.
I think its taking the mickey to expect it to be covered under the warranty
Hopefully the fuel was put in a jerry can for safe storage.
I’d be right cheesed off in that case
Especially not hearing a squeak out of them.
From the Cazoo site, excluded items:
Miscellaneous items: Air conditioning recharging, ECU reflashes (unless deemed essential as part of a valid claim), upgrades, exhaust system, auxiliary drive belts, brackets, mountings, tappings, supports, fixings and fastening devices, fuel tank and fuel lines, rubber hoses, metal pipes or plastic pipes and unions, core plugs and air bags.
Also they exclude accidental damage, which is probably what a mouse chewing part of your car would come under.
I can’t see how that could be a warranty claim 🤷🏻♂️
I think they are taking the Mickey...
Yeah these buggers are tight fisted, as you'd expect. It is possible sometimes to get money out of them but not in this case.
My brother in law bought a car from cazoo, or was it cinch, can’t remember. Doesn’t really matter. It’s a 2018 Passat sold with full dealer service history. It went wrong and had to have it looked at. Guess what. It’s not been serviced for 40000 miles or something.
His own fault I know- check before parting with money that all paperwork is in order, but I’m not surprised at all when I hear horror stories like this.
The cars they sell seem to be secondary to the reason they exist which is to sell finance. Or am I being harsh?
I think they are taking the Mickey…
Somebody is and it’s not Cazoo. That’s not warranty work…… 😂

Charging £379 a year for an extended warranty will mean they are making far more off that than the car.
Unless the cost of these things have gone through the roof recently, that seems a lot more than I was looking at a few years back.
Aaah yes, I see - the warranty covers more or less nothing. Caveat emptor, I suppose.
Still, apart from that, the thing that is boiling my piss just now is the lack of action to actually fix the car and the endless fobbing off. Plus I just called the insurance people and they said that Cazoo have not actually contacted them to request authorisation (whether or not it would ultimately be approved).

OP should have extracted the murine a bit earlier.
Sounds like you’ve unfortunately been caught in a trap DrJ.
Still, the awful STW puns have lightened my mood a bit 🙂
Mouse chewing through anything will be excluded on any insurance policy, a 3rd party warranty is just that.
No idea if cazoo are any good at all, but from an insurance point of view, mouse damage (pet or under the umbrella of vermin) is a standard exclusion on all policies
edit - apologies for the lack of puns.
I dont know about Cazoo, but guessing if they say they give the car a million point check that everything is good and a week later this issue arises that was missed I guess I would (try) to get them to fix it.
Hate cars....
Once rang my house insurance to ask if I could claim for the damage our cats had done to carpets. Turned out we couldn’t but we could’ve taken optional extra cover out that would have covered it.
The solution in the end was the cats went to live 200 miles away in Portsmouth. Should’ve sent them north.
The manufacturers warranty is worth something. All others are pretty useless IMO.
At least if you would like a warranty, but it yourself under your terms, rather than put up with whatever the seller got cheapest.
Under the Extended Warranty - "Excluded Parts"
"fuel tank and fuel lines, rubber hoses, metal pipes or plastic pipes and unions, core plugs and air bags.".
So not covered. Though that doesn't excuse the rubbish customer service and inability to contact. Was it a mouse. Fox cubs are often respnsible for chewing bits of cars.

Am I missing something? This is for mechanical failures isn't it? As opposed to rodent damage I mean!
I've got a car from Cazoo, had to use the warranty twice and had the work approved no quibbles.
Sounds like you should get the cat checked while it's there

No need to get ratty

👏👏👏👏👏
My boss had his car (expensive Merc) rewired after rodent chewing. He had quite a fight getting the insurance to cough up but in the end they did. Car was never quite the same afterwards as it had to be extensively dismantled to replace the looms.
If they do help you out by fixing it, it will be voleuntary.

That doesn’t surprise me in the slightest with a Mercedes, having seen them completely bricked after the battery died!
I work for Cazoo, but can’t comment about something like the OP’s issue, that’s an admin problem for much higher up the food-chain!
This deserved more:

A couple of Toms maybe 🥁🥁

Sounds like you've just got Itchy feet.
Have you tried your actual car insurance?
They are used to dealing with Road-dents
I’ll get me coat
Sounds like you should get the cat checked while it’s there
It's missing as the rodents got in!
Cheesus Christ, you need to stop being such a mice guy and get on to to Cazoo management and escalate.
I’d imagine this isn’t covered under warranty, but you could ask them to come to a compromice and pay half each. Personally I think your Donald Ducked and going to have to pay to fix it yourself.
Absolutely no help at all.
Website clearly states fuel lines excluded = computer says gnaw.
Polo you say?
You say it’s a mouse problem but it seems more likely that a horse would have done this.
And clearly there’s neigh chance of warranty or insurance here.
Sounds like you should get the cat checked while it’s there
Chapeau.
My dealership uses a ginger tom and a yellow labrador to walk around cars as part of their pre-delivery checks; cat scan results and a lab report are provided with the V5
Just checking my normal insurance - covers vandalism - doesn't state that the vandal cannot be a mouse, so I may be in luck 🙂
("jerry can" - groan !!! )
Good luck with that. Sometimes cars cost money, things break or get damaged, that's the joys of car ownership, sometimes you just have to pay. The fact you thought a warranty, yet alone an after market warranty, would cover rodent damage suggest you dont really get how insurance works (warranties are just a form of insurance).
Yeah, thanks for the patronising comment - that really helps.
I'm with Stumpyjon on this. A warranty essentially covers you for things that were wrong before you bought the car but we're not obvious or did not manifest into a problem until you owned the car but we're developing before you owned the car, with lots of exclusions for specific parts and wear and tear etc. Your car getting damaged after you bought it has nothing to do with a warranty unfortunately.
Mate at work had a similar issue, rats ate through the wiring on his Discovery Sport. It took months of arguing and chasing up but in the end either the insurance or warranty paid up. Car was written off.
