Yes / No? Aside from making sure it isn't going to fall over when it gets climbed on, are real trees a good or bad idea for a house with a cat?

We've had a real tree with our cat every year (although this year the other half wanted a fake tree for some reason).

Our cat doesn't seem to care if the tree is fake or real, she still likes to hide under it & occasionally attack the decorations.

She's never climbed a christmas tree or had any problems with needles getting stuck in her paws.
She did have a habit of brushing against the lower branches, getting needles all over her back and then depositing them evenly about the house.

Didn't cause huge problems with our kitten. Use low voltage LED lights and keep a water pistol handy. Only took one squirt for the little, uh, squirt to learn.

Ours never pay much attention after the first few minutes of putting it up, unless there are low-hanging ornaments for them to bat at. Depends on the cats, of course, but keep the baubles above feline flailing height and you should be fine.

Half the fun of xmas is watching our cats destroy the Christmas tree every year.

Lasy year, they even managed to topple it over 😉

Thinking of putting a live squirrel in the tree this year, to spice things up a bit for them.

Our tree went up at the weekend, so did our cat!

TBH, half the fun of having a tree, is watching our cats play with it!

😉

Our cats have had many a fun night destroying Xmas trees . For some reason though they don't seem bothered this year - they just keep drinking the lovely Xmas tree flavour water from the base ( it obviously tastes much nicer than the clean water in the cat bowl!)

None of my parents' cats have ever taken much notice of the Christmas trees, with one exception.

A couple of years after we took in a rescue cat, we were putting presents under the tree when the cat asked to be let in. She walked in with a freshly-caught mouse, went straight to the tree and put the dead mouse down under the tree.

Even then, she didn't catch mice that often, and it's the only time I know of that she brought one indoors...

ski - that's an excellent shot! Did you chose the colour of the cat to match the decorations or the other way round?

Our cat has never climbed in the tree, but just swats low hanging baubles...she's already had a couple off this year. She likes sitting under the tree too - stays there for hours, looking out from her Christas tree lair....

Lol! I've not seen that one before

As above my cats aren't bothered by the tree, they just like to sit and bop any low hanging ornaments
