Morning all, my girlfriend has recently moved in with me bringing her three legged cat along with her (not a euphemism). This is fine as I like cats, obviously it's reacted to this by being a complete dick.

It's taken to every so often doing a random wee in the front room behind a door, rather than in it's litter tray. It's also done a poo on the bathroom mat for good measure.

Other than these incidents it seems fine - it's a bit scared and likes to hide under the bed, but in the evenings its been doing the normal cat things of sitting on laps and purring.

Any suggestions on how to stop it doing this? Or the reasons for it (my assumption is the house move has stressed it out and its getting some kind of weird revenge)... it's a boy cat if it matters (has been chopped tho).

Make sure the litter tray is clean, and maybe put another one in the bathroom. It's probably just nerves.

The standard for cat litter trays is the same as for bikes.

N+1 where N is the number of cats.

Stick another tray in the front room, and how about giving it some high places to 'hide' - cat tree or somesuch?

Get on of those Feliway plug in things. Worked a charm when I had a youg cat prone to "kitten accidents". It makes them feel good about themselves. Seriously, sounds like voodoo but it worked ! Worth a go they are only £15 or so.

P.s and think yourself lucky - I had a flatmate whose cat would piss on the bed of whomever she was currently fell out with (always somebody)

Disabled cat is being a dick, so be a dick back and buy it something it cant use, classic response, the cat cant fail to to respect you for that move, tho it will continue to be a dick obviously.

It's three-legged, not in a wheelchair, and still has a natural instinct to try to get higher up when it feels insecure.

Probably a sign of stress, which is understandable with the move.

It's surprisingly agile for an animal with three legs. Tends to bounce off walls to get higher than it has any right to be (e.g it gets on the kitchen work surface by doing a kungfu jump off the dishwaster handle).

It does tend to forget it's missing a leg tho and quite often goes for jumps that it has no hope of making. Which is funnier than it should be.

We've got one of the glade type things on the way. Another litter tray seems a sensible move.

When we moved house, our cat had a few incidents in the first week we moved in, a couple of turds on the kitchen door mat and bathroom mat.
She's settled in now and there have been no more logging events.
She's left a few hair turds about the place, but thats standard procedure for her.

Another trick I was told was to glue cat biscuits to some card and leave it where they're soiling, apparently that discourages them.

My GFs cat who now lives with me pooped in the bath a fair few times when he first moved in. To be honest I am fine with that, its seems a sensible place to do it if you are going to not poop in the litter tray!

I find Feliway helps a lot too. Certainly helped when settling in the cats in a new place.

At Uni one of my house mates went sleep walking once (I was still up), he walked past me, into the kitchen, opened the fridge, pulled out the vegetable tray, pissed in it and then closed the fridge. The next day he wouldn't believe me until I showed him the evidence. All stress related (he was a closet homosexual at the time with a GF which wasn't working out well).

Their own, whilst throwing up in the sink.

She tried to clean it up, but failed.
Mate was having a bath the next morning when things, small brown things, started floating up from under the bathmat.

We've fostered a few rescue cats with various backgrounds with very few problems (at least of this type!). We start by shutting new cats in "their" room with litter tray so they get used to it being their safe place. Obviously this depends on having a room you can devote to cats! Then they are allowed out and litter trays placed in lounge and hall but these are then gradually moved back towards their room. The only difficult one had spent time on the streets and would occasionally spray when stressed.

In general, start with lots of litter trays and gradually move/remove them to where you want them to be.
