Serial cat killer in Croydon and surrounding areas. Chops their head and tail off, disembowels, drains the blood and dumps them on the street or in people's gardens.
30 reported here, radio today was saying maybe 50 and seems to be spreading further around. Advice is to keep your cat indoors at night. Anyone with an outdoor cat would know that's near impossible.
My parents lived next to a cat killer, and sure enough he got our cat.
Where does Shibboleth live?
I'm a extremely placid guy, but if someone harmed one of my cats I'd make it my mission in life to find them and make their life an abject misery.
Someone on the radio this morning was saying she knew about someone who had a new neighbour who moved in and made a threat about their cat, and next day dead just like the ones above.
Someone who is not wired up properly.
I reckon its just a really tough bird getting back for all those baby robins,
very sadistic, no surprise if its someone with many issues that could later become a risk to the general public, hope the police are taking it seriously.

And how do you deal with people who dont like having your pet roaming around in their gardens/sheds/houses?
Not at all agreing with killing cats, i quite like cats, but i have never come across a catowner who is willing/capable of seing the cat issue from anything but their own side.

Depends. If they tried to physically harm my cats, then I'd not lose sleep over a disproportionate response.
However, if they came to me to discuss the issue then I'd be more than willing to compromise. I don't like dogs crapping on my front garden, but I'd never physically harm a dog if I caught it mid-crap on my property. I'd ask the owner to ensure that it never happened again.

Bit like saying "all cyclists jump red lights", isn't it?
Just like dog owners. But responsible for fewer mauled children.

More to life than worrying about a cat in your garden...
Pretty sure any pet owner would react very badly to their pet being decapitated, disembowelled and left for them to find, not just cat owners. Surely you're not suggesting this is an appropriate response to a cat going/being in someone's garden?
There can be no excuse for this type of behaviour and I suspect it will be someone with severe mental health issues. I sincerely hope they catch them soon.
Ok, one step further then, someone come and ask you if you could please keep your cat out of their garden.
What would you do?

Well, yes. There are children starving in Africa, for example.
Shit! The crazy cat people are ANGRY!
but i have never come across a catowner who is willing/capable of seing the cat issue from anything but their own side.
I don't disagree, but it kind of irrelevant to this discussion. It's like starting a thread on a cyclist who gets killed by a careless driver and ending up talking about how some cyclists go though red lights or ignore one way signs. Whether you mean it or not, you're kind of excusing that sort of behaviour.
...aaaand, we're off 😕

This
That.
Edit..I hate cats but this is a bit more than hate. Does this tie in with cutting off horses tails?
Well, yes. There are children starving in Africa, for example.
and they get much bigger cats in their gardens.

In fact this has happened to me. Several solutions were suggested:
1) Keeping my cats in during certain times of the day.
2) Helping my neighbour install cat deterrents on their property
In the end, the first solution was found to be satisfactory. Happy cats, happy neighbour and happy me.
satanic cult
my cat skull necklace looks ace by the way.
(while i have very mixed emotions about our cat i`d not want it gone in this manner)
As timc says. What happens when they get bored of, or run out of cats to fulfil their sadistic fantasies on?

^This.
I don't like cats, and particularly don't like them shitting in my garden, however I find chucking a handful of soil in their general direction does a good job of getting rid of them.

I'm with this - killing and disembowelling I save for dog owners that don't clear up after their animals.

Pretty similar to what cats do to the local bird population then.
I like cats but i think they should be kept indoors.

This is perfectly acceptable. I'd be lying if I said I'd never squirted a hose at a nuisance cat or shooed it away.

We have a polecat surplus.
I blame curiosity.
I just let this out 🙂
She is actually shit scared of cats but being a terrier she forgets this each time and tears off across the garden after them.
Cats see her as possibly quite a fierce and efficient killer of small animals so they flee.
Occasionally cats can be quite arsey and they stand there ground. Cue the dog coming to a swift halt and the roles reverse within a split second. There is little as aggressive as a cat that thinks you are taking the piss so she has been chased by cats which is quite funny.
That is a fine looking dog.

Nothing.. as Under the Common Law Duty of Care though, cat owners have a general cats and the lawduty to take reasonable steps to ensure that their cats do not cause damage to someones property or cause injury to anyone.
This is does not mean we have to try and stop them enter your property

strange, I've offered to give my neighbour a waterpistol (not a stupidly powerful supersoaker) to use to discourage our cat in her back garden & would have no issues running my cats out, even using a hose.. it's their yard after all but physical action against to cat? Sick
Was it Misis IGMC 🙂

POSTED 1 HOUR AGO # REPORT-POST
All the same, they'll just fit up the boogie like usual
Not at all agreing with killing cats, i quite like cats, but i have never come across a catowner who is willing/capable of seing the cat issue from anything but their own side.
Well, now you have. Mine are house cats because I don't want them murdering the wildlife, fertlising next door's lawn, embedded in the bumper of a passing vehicle, or given an ISIS-style execution by a nutter.
They're really quite satisfied with their lot too, although they are currently indicating to me that I should light the woodburner ASAP.
I'm getting a little miffed with our neighbours 100% outdoor cats which are frequently crapping in our garden. And by garden I mean in the flower beds, anywhere on the lawn and their finest act so far - in the kids playhouse.
Neighbours are of the opinion that they are outdoor cats so what can they do.
Cats are wild animals, despite the partial domestication (unlike dogs which are fully domesticated). They'll do as they please or instinct tells them to.
Don't want cats to crap in your garden, get a cat. They are territorial and defend their own, scent the area to make it theirs. They will also crap in another neighbours garden. Wouldn't want to mess up their own garden after all 😀
At least they're not dogs. Just crap wherever they like, don't make neat holes to bury it in, and you have to spend all the time extracting dog crap from your lawn.
Unusual for cats to crap on your lawn or worse the playhouse, especially if you have flowr beds for them to dig in. Some do though.
These cats are surface laying. No hole digging and covering up the evidence.
Might be someone stealing cats to use as bait in dog fights, they might not be doing the disembowelling themselves.
It's still properly gruesome and sick, I'm not excusing that bit at all. There was a case round here (Manchester) where someone was caught breeding cats to use the kittens as dog bait. 🙁
Cats are wild animals, despite the partial domestication (unlike dogs which are fully domesticated). They'll do as they please or instinct tells them to.
Sounds like a typical cat owner reply. You can't blame the cat - it is a wild animal. So let me poison it like a wild rat or similar. No, it is a pet and that is nasty.

Cats are the problem not the solution! I don't want to be blown up by someone wearing a suicide vest.l I know, I will wear a suicide vest and blow myself up instead. Get a brain.

Oh look - there are worse things that cats. Yes, there are also worse things than anal rape but I don't want that either.
Unusual for cats to crap on your lawn or worse the playhouse, especially if you have flowr beds for them to dig in. Some do though.
Damn right some do. The cats that stay in their owners house not killing and shitting indiscriminately are not the problem. Unfortunately the cats we see out and about do not fit into that category. It is only the ones we are complaining about that we complain about obviously.
I feel the cat hate here. Own a machete? 😉
They will also crap in another neighbours garden. Wouldn't want to mess up their own garden after all
Ours are too lazy in winter and generally crap in our flower beds. For some reason one of them also craps in the middle of the lawn which is odd given there is no shortage of flower beds and wood chippings available.
I do actually like cats, but my allergy and living on a busy road stops me having one; however there are plenty of others around me who don't see the traffic as an issue, and their cats seem to be happy to come into my garden, where they happily sit under the big Acer where my bird feeders hang. I use a Nerf gun, but the little sods can see any movement at the kitchen window, and even opening the back door, which is at the side of the house, has them away on their toes.
They also like to shit in the gravel out the front where I park my car, sometimes right by the driver's door!
There is a rectangular concrete planter out front as well, about two feet high, and I noticed when cutting the hedge that they've been shitting in the top of the planter!
Anyway the planter now appears to have a tiny forest growing in it; the hedge is Pyrocanthus, so I've stuck a bunch of the trimmings into the dirt; any cat going for a crap in the planter is going to get a very spiky surprise up its bum! 😈
This sort of behaviour is really the sign of a very sick mind, one has to wonder what they'd do to a human who pissed them off.
Those who put out antifreeze for cats is pretty twisted, too, although sometimes I wonder if it isn't just accidental through someone carelessly dumping the remains of a used bottle before tossing the bottle in the bin.
Yep. Lawn full of cat crap this year and last. Not buried, mostly loose - especially when the lawn mower goes over it. Some of it, if I haven't found it in time during summer, is crawling with maggots. Not ideal with a two year old playing in the garden.
3 outdoor cats next door, 2 cats two doors up the other way and another two next door to them. Mostly outdoor cats with lazy indoor owners.
Isn't the point that owning a cat is not an unreasonable thing - we've been living with them for 10k years. They don't bark or tend to attack the postmen like even a dog.
People get a lot of pleasure out of cat owning. Kids learn from owning a living creature, and it's not cruel in the way having a flightless bird or trapped mammal could be percieved to be.
So we all have to get along, on this overcrowded corner of the planet. Talk to the neighbours - and remeber your hate of their cat is probably matched by their hate of you starting your car at 5:3oam to go to work, or your kids noiseon the garden - its about living alongside each other and realising we all impact on each other in a tiny way - I don't play my guitar through an amp in my flat out of respect, and if they were making a noise, I feel I could ask my neighbours to be quieter too.
The thing about the Croydon cat issue, is that you have to particularly cold and psychopathic, and sooner or later, when the thrill goes from cat murder, a child may be next.....
Really well said.
A lot of serial killers 'started off' with animal cruelty/slaughter.
Just saying like.
One of the more dramatic headlines ...
"‘Children and elderly are next’: Barrister warns that Croydon’s serial cat killer could turn on humans"
Surprise it was just a local, not the Mail or Express.
I see PETA have got involved now so they'll be setting traps for humans and slaughtering them.
Also the nut job has killed foxes too and some rumours of dogs being killed. Okay may not be the same person, but the method of killing is reported to be identical in each case.
Sounds like a typical cat owner reply. You can't blame the cat - it is a wild animal. So let me poison it like a wild rat or similar. No, it is a pet and that is nasty.
That's one of the dimmest things I've ever read on here, and you've got stiff competition.
The problem is that it's actually quite tricky to train cats. Whilst I appreciate the problem, saying to a cat "don't do that" doesn't really work. Cats aren't "wild animals" (or, y'know, vermin like feral rats are, insert "straw man" here) but they are independent creatures.
The only real solution is to have indoor cats, which is perfectly acceptable to the cat so long as they never know any different. FWIW, I had an outdoor cat for 18 years and given the volume of poo in my back yard it seemed unlikely that she was a problem for anyone else.
Fast-forward to today, I don't have a cat but there's been a sudden influx of cats and kittens in the neighbourhood. My yard fairly regularly has a cat poo in it. I clean it up in the same way that I clean up bird guano, recycling detritus that's blown in, weeds and so on. If it gets excessive I'll look to dissuading them, throw some orange peel around or get a water pistol or something. It's annoying and unpleasant but that's no justification for killing someone else's pride and joy any more than it's valid to drive through a cyclist who ran a red light.
Those who put out antifreeze for cats is pretty twisted, too, although sometimes I wonder if it isn't just accidental
If that sort of behaviour is accidental you can have my bike.
That's one of the dimmest things I've ever read on here, and you've got stiff competition.
Give me a chance, I've barely posted today.
People get a lot of pleasure out of cat owning. Kids learn from [s]owning a living creature,[/s] getting smeared in maggoty cat shit
As long as the kitty was used for meat, then what's the problem? Pleanty of other animals come to the same grizzly end without too many tears being shed.
People seem to have moved away from the real issue here.
I'm a great believer in that you can judge a persons respect for human life in the way they treat animals. Some people like dogs, some like cats (I've had both)but in no uncertain terms would I deliberately kill behead etc etc anything.
This is one sick individual who I would believe is almost certainly a danger to society and as said on another post I hope the police are taking this seriously.
I respect human and animal life. What I'm less keen on is having to clean cat poo off of my kids wellies, and the carpet after they have walked it into the house, and my sons fingers after he has touched it.
Call me crazy.
All those saying cats are annoying, damage the local environment with their crapping and their bird slaughtering etc, should be kept in doors as a minimum and all that, so what do you propose we do about the human race? Seems we do slightly more damage to the environment than cats. FWIW our neighbour has a cat that shits on our lawn, we throw water at the cat and will often have a check round for crap before the kids go out and play. Hardly the end of the world.
I get more shit from walking or riding through dog shit in a week than cat shit I tread on in an entire lifetime.
Shall we get started on dog poo bags on trails or tied to trees?
So why are cats afraid of cucumbers?
Dog shit is bad. Cat shit is bad. Fox shit is bad.
Dogs however have been by our sides as man has evolved. They have helped man reach both poles. Been transport, warmth and even food. Now in this modern age they keep our airports safe, help the less abled to live a better life and if you ever get stuck in an avalanche you'd better pray the dog's not on holiday and the cat's filling in.
Cats have really done very little to deserve our gratitude.
If you want a low maintenance pet why not get a rabbit?
Ps I don't own any animals, I'm just giving an unbiased view point.
I don't ever recall standing or riding through cat shit, stood in umpteen dog shits though
I'm just giving an unbiased view point.
No, you really aren't.
Anyone with cats crapping on the lawn, just try digging over a patch of flower bed in a couple of places. The cats will almost always prefer that over the lawn.
Or even better, ask the cat owner to dig over a corner of thiers!
Our cats always seem to use our garden but they are fairly lazy and rarely stay outside
Zippy you have already said that you hate cats on this thread. You need to look up what unbiased means 🙄
have heard that domestic cats have been responsible for riduculous amounts of wildlife killed birds mainly.
Anyone with cats crapping on the lawn, just try digging over a patch of flower bed in a couple of places. The cats will almost always prefer that over the lawn.
Who empties out all of the faeces when the latrine is full and the cats have started crapping the lawn again?
In our situation the cat owners have a small garden, ours is enormous by comparison so the cats have much more pooing options in ours.
It's sad how this thread has detracted from the original post. Had it been about any other family pet them I'm sure you would all be going nuts. It's simply not acceptable to treat any animal in a manor in which to cause harm! The people responsible need caught ASAP before they move on to bigger targets!
The people responsible need caught ASAP before they move on to bigger targets!
It starts with cats. Next thing you know it will be pigs, cows , chickens. Even cute little lambs won't be safe ! I've heard there may even be an underground network of animal slaughterers who have already moved on to bigger targets , on an industrial scale !

Each to their own, however I was more thinking along the lines of dogs but yeah, why stop there? You might as well throw small children into the mix too!
The fact of the matter is that the people doing these sort of crimes are sick and who knows how they think.
Yep, once I've successfully despatched next doors cats and gotten away with it I'll be moving onto their pesky kids for sure.
Sorry, I doubt anyone's surprised if I turn up at this point and call out the comment on rabbits:
Rabbits ARE NOT low maintainance pets. They require just as much care, attention and interaction as dogs and cats.... Or anything else for that matter.
As you were.
I expect the cat killer is trying to optimize conditions for this weekends big bird watching event. I expect cat killings to stop until this time next year.

Of course they did this out of pure altruism. The sled dogs tied themselves to the sled and needed no coaxing whatsoever.
Whoever is doing this is a sick individual who needs catching ASAP.
However...

Why should I designate a patch of my garden so that somebody else's cat can shit in it? I wish that the cat owners near to me would take responsibility for the mess that their bloody pets create.
