I was looking at a car on eBay that after a check turned out to be a CAT D. I emailed th seller to say thanks but no thanks, should a be reporting the ad to eBay?
It wouldn't hurt to notify them - Cat D doesn't show up on the V5 so a buyer wouldn't know if they're not told (the seller might easily no know either). However some insurance policies won't pay up on a car thats already Cat D so the new owner could unwittingly get into hot water further down the line.
If its not advertised as such, then yes. Aren't CAT D's supposed to be destroyed, not repaired?
*edit* Nope im wrong Cat Ds are light cosmetic damage usually. So no destruction required here.
Yeah I thought the seller might not know, but the price would say otherwise.
A HPI will show it up, but if a buyer/bidder doesn't do one then that's up to them.
But if its a cheap car.
i've had a couple of cars on cat d and bikes, nothing to worry about "buy on condition".
cars and bikes get written off for some stupid reasons and may be that why insurance is such an exspense.
had a porsche where the last owner gassed him self in the garage sat in his chair while he left the car running and a mitsi evo 6 where the owner pranged it then decided that he was'nt happy with the work the garage had done so it went back to the insurance company, both cars were unmarked and undamaged and should'nt really be on cat d,most cars out there have had some body work at some time that won't be recorded.
a bike can be written off for a scratch on the frame, panel damage or just that parts are not available.
some cars can have being badly damaged but there are plenty of badly damaged unrecorded cars/bikes out there as well.
