Not hired a car for years but is there any internet based peer to peer local scheme etc??  Like JustPark for parking.  Just need something cheap and cheerful for the weekend.

Not that I've seen. But normal car hire places are often dirt cheap over the weekend anyway, £35 will get you something small and basic from late Friday to early Monday, add £5 or £10 for something Focus sized.

Oh!  Cheapest so far is £100 for a little Fiat Friday to Sunday and that's with £1000 damage excess, no windscreen cover etc?!!  I'm not near a city though and that was from the nearest depot at Ashford International Station.

I needed a cheap hire car recently, and by far and away the cheapest thing to do was to hire a van - a small Transit connect for full week was about £70 or so.

Ah what you need is competition, I have 8 enterprise locations that I can get to easily so plenty of cars at quiet times, also this weekend would be the Bhol so probably a fair bit more
