As it says really. Have found some old music cassette tapes. Not sure I even have a tape player any more - will have to hunt around for it.
So if I can find a cassette deck with an output line how to I get the stuff onto iTunes, and if I can't find the deck, is there somewhere that could do it at a reasonable price?

It's probably easier just to buy it on itunes. It'll sound better as well.

Download a copy of Audacity, it's free and it works great.
Record the cassettes into Audacity in real time.
EQ, remove noise, enhance as needed.
Export the files as mp3s.
Upload to iTunes.

use garageband (mac) and select 'real instrument' plug into audio in jack, click record, import to itunes.done. (after waiting seemingly forever...and to think we used to do it in real time as it was our only option!)
what's on the cassette ??? I bet with some juducious surfing you could find it somewhere

edhornby - OK, I'll set the task but not sure if I really want to own up to this :?. I am involved in one of our local Scottish country dancing clubs: some of the music we have was bought a long time ago hence being on tape. I am trying to bring it into the 21st century by getting all the tapes and CD's onto an iPod and then getting a docking station. Will have a look myself, but try Dreamcatcher, Irish Rover and Bratach Bana. Trouble is with so much stuff on tape would cost a lot to replace with CD's or MP3's

No need for a mike, if the Cassette desk has a headphone line out. Just need the right Jack to Jack lead to go from Cassette line out to microphone line in on PC. What you might have to do though is faff about with left and right stereo (I have to do this for some things - it's not hard just time consuming) if you PC is mono in only.
