Ikea - Do a plastic one that becomes brittle and curls at the corners and is sharp enough to cut your feet after just 6 months
Staples - Same as Ikea and same results
Home made - offcut carpet sewn around the edges. The backing collapses and it falls apart in about 6 months
Anything anyone can recommend?
Cheap rug from Ikea?
Piece of vinyl flooring cut to size/shape?
Go without? Can't say I've noticed any issues with my carpet after more than a year WFH....
I have the IKEA one, had it down more than 6 months and it still looms brand new, no idea what you are doing with yours.
carpet tiles
I work across the length of two desks, about 3m in total so roll about more that normal which combined with my build for comfort body sizing puts more strain on these things.
Ikea thing - checked with the boss and she said it was more like 2 years than 6 months.
Cheap rug - basically the same as the offcut I have just binned. Works fine and will probably repeat as it is a cheap and easy solution.
Do nothing - I thought that until I saw the deterioration of the carpet offcut, from the same carpet, and thought a bit of protection would save the wool carpet for a bit longer.
Vinyl is a possibility as I could do that wider that the normal protectors and roll further up and down the desk with ease. hopefully would remain in tact longer too.
Oh, I've got this. Give me a minute to find it.
Here. Floortex polycarbonate. Spendy but worth it. I dun a review and everyfink.
We have a wooden floor in our home office, and find that the hard style floor protectors don't allow us to hold a comfortable position as you are always fidgeting trying to avoid sliding away from the desk/footrest everytime you lean back in the chair.
We have one of these at each desk, ordered larger than needed and cut to a T shape to fit under the desks between the under-desk-cabinets whilst still giving enough room on the mat to move on the chair away from the desk.
They work really well, just the correct amount of castor friction, warmer on my feet, the edges don't curl and it is very hard wearing.

Edit- you are looking for something to go on carpet, this type of mat should still work, but haven't tried it.

Could that be because it is not fitted and with the benefit of underlay though? An offcut will start to fall apart quicker I would have thought as it is woven and the weave will come apart on a small piece? Could be completely wrong of course 🙂
Lift section of household carpet, replace with office carpet, or laminate flooring suitable for office.
Brilliant review Couger and I was about to hit buy when : Currently unavailable.
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock
Cougar is correct. I have the same one. I didn't get it from amazon, some office supplies place like viking or something. But I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's the best thing about my office set up.
Bought a hard plastic one from amazon. Has little spikes on it to stop it moving. Works great and been using for 14 months now
Type in floor protectors for chairs, its the Dawsons Living one.
I've got carpet tiles in the office above my garage, the tiles are wearing where the chair/desk is. Presumably for something hard like carpet tiles (I didn't put them down and don't know where they are from) I could use anything on top to stop it wearing so bad. They're not soft like a rug or carpet
EDIT - Cougar, that's a cracking review 🙂
Best Amazon review ever by Cougar, I'm not surprised they are sold out, after reading that review I want one and have hard floor in my (home) office.
Not withstanding Cougars excellent review above, I’ve got one of these
