Hi any carpenters out there that have changed jobs just wondering what sort of direction you went in, im a carpenter by trade (25 years) but can do everything bar gas and electrics just fed up and need a change . any advice.
Train enumnerator, counting how many people use a train,
been a market trader, crap,
woodwork instructor in a large psychiatric hospital, great job, fantastic fun,
Van driver doing multiple drop deliveries, great job, crap pay,and uncaring staff at some surgeries,
Now working again as a joiner, part time social worker with some customers,
also looking for new career choice, thinking about Nuclear engineering, or internet sales.
Keep looking, keep taking the pay. You thought about moving into management? Problem with me is some months I'll run a large site £6/7 million in value then like now I'll be back on the tools making fencing for the five houses we built 2 yrs ago. I love the buzz of running the big sites but the lads are like kids somedays, I also love making/building stuff but somedays the body don't want to push the barrow anymore!
My father in law was a joiner, working for a firm who did bespoke kitchens. When the work got scarce he got a job as a janitor in a decent primary school which he loved. Then they started shifting all the staff around and he was in some awful schools for a year or two. Love's it again now - back in the original school!
The other upside is that he and his wife get to live in the janny's hoose for peanuts and let out their own place.
