Just in case you thought Cleverly was an "ok Tory", he's here to remind you, well, he's not.

Title is a little click baity, but I'm limited by letter count. Anyway... Kids are only starving as they live in Stockton North and it's a bit sh*te there, so it's the kids fault really.

He initially denied saying anything but in the last 24 hours his position has... Changed. 'Tis the tory way.

Labour MP Cunningham had asked: "Why are 34% of children in my constituency living in poverty?"

Cleverly (a caring Tory) said "because it's a sh*t hole". Though he later denied saying anything...

That has now changed to him admitting he said "because you are a shit MP" but Cunningham has a recording and said that is still a lie and what he said is clear.

This was said in parliament at PMQ's by the way. Not down the local pub.

Embarrassingly, the Tory mayor for the area has asked Cleverly to apologise.

I suspect they know there wont be much of a blue wall up north so don't really care much, not that they ever did...

I don't think you can say for definite it was 'shithole' but it wasn't three syllables so it 'definitely' wasn't shit MP (IMHO)

The fact he's amended his story to one that clearly doesn't fit makes it a lie and consequently makes me think that the original is in fact true.

Someone out there, right now, is using some clever software to isolate the audio of what he said now it's on the net.

I love this story, because I've heard a bit of noise over the past week that Cleverly is a vaguely normal Tory and might actually do OK as a more statesmanly candidate (compared to Cruella et al). So this smashes all that down, I hope this story continues to gain momentum.

Surely he wouldn't be stupid enough to have actually said what he's accused of, though?

If the Tories have taught us anything...

Seen that video of Sunak using a hammer in the other thread? 😁

Doesn't matter what he actually said. It's the fact that his true Tory arrogance has been exposed.

This is like sitting in a top level corporate board meeting and openly taking the p1ss - You only do it if you're arrogant enough to believe you're untouchable...or you own the company.

It's the Tories in a nut shell. They genuinely believe they're above everyone else.

He is one smug mofo. <br />One the most arrogant and dislikable out of all of the ****

I had no idea who he was 12mnths ago but saw him out campaigning and the way he dismissed people asking him questions was contemptible. Rage inducing that •••• like this get voted in the first place let alone made a Minister ffs.

IMO Cleverly is like Shapps, known to do nothing of substance but be able to brazen out most situations when being interviewed.

And sounds more like "shitheap", but then that's kinda my view of Stockton and the various NE towns and TBH having seen them vote Tory in 2019 they're kinda deserving of the treatment they've had.  A lad I ride with from MonkeyHangers is a huge Tory, absolutely zero personal reason to vote for them and a total inability to articulate why they're good for the country either.

It still surprises me how stupid so many of our MPs are

A combo of arrogance from his new promotion and frustration at the omnishambles of the tory government and their poll deficit plus his innate stupidity

I know folks will argue 2 cheeks of the same arse and that we should be seeking a new politic, but right now just getting this lot removed is all i really care about.

I'm in Al Capone territory here. Whatever sticks, will do. IDK if in fact he's right and Stockton is a 'hole - I haven't been there for 20+ years but last time I went it wasn't the place I thought I'd be desperate to go back to. But you just don't say stuff like that out loud in the HoC when you're an MP, let alone the Home Sec. So minor as it may be in the grand scheme, if it embarrasses him, into an apology or reprimand, and in turn undermines the PM's commitment to integrity, professionalism and accountability then great.  If it turns the red wall further against them, absolutely fine by me. Removal is the goal, but total electoral annihilation is the dream.

If only you could appoint somebody locally  to oversee its regeneration and drive things forward. Could even give him a peerage.

I was back to my home area (N. Hampshire/Berks borders) earlier this week having not been there for a good while, and very surprised about how much the gap has widened between there and the North East where I currently live. Not really a comment on Cleverly's comments, more that there's something very wrong with the way this country is going as the gap is widening faster than ever, not levelling up or whatever its called this month.

Funny how it takes things like this for civilians to see through his facade. Those of us in the defence community knew he was a cock by the way he parades around his Reserve Commission and thoroughly unremarkable career like it gives him some kind of credibility.

He's been cosplaying as a soldier for a while, now everyone knows he's also been cosplaying as a human.

Remember the good old days when something like this would've been a resignation offence?

Imagine the uproar if a member of the SNP/Labour/etc had said something about Jacob's constituency?

Now I'm not going to defect a Tory MP in any way, shape or form, I can't wait for the whole horrible bunch of them to get booted out of parliament lock stock and barrel ASAP, but...

I would caution that the enhanced audio presented could just as well be doctored to misrepresent, you'd be bet not to take anything like that at face value these days, no matter who it's being attributed to.

even the BBC audio is clear enough for me - definitely "shit" definitely not "MP" and sounds a lot like a cockerney can't saying "shit'ole"

I grew up in Stockton North and it was a shithole back then, fo'sho'.  Not sure that gets him off the hook at all, though.

Just to cheer you all up (except anyone from Stockton maybe), when my kids were little the subject came up of me being from Stockton and one of them said "isn't that a bag of skin that holds your testicles?"

I’m in a Tory Red wall seat, I suppose poverty levels are much the same. I think I will have to write to my MP and ask him if that’s because he’s shit.

I see that Cleverly is a Lt Col in the reserves, which sounds quite senior. Are reserves ranks as rigorous as "normal" ranks? I don't know about this stuff

Is it any surprise that John Crace refers to him as Jimmy Dimly?

Yep, another thing killed off by Johnson. Now it's double down until you are forced to walk the plank and even then they do it screaming their innocence and how terribly unfair it all is.
