Hi, I'm looking to purchase a card reader and wondered if the STW hive mind could give me some advice and any pitfalls to watch out for, etc. I've been advised to buy a SumUp Solo device, as these seem to be one of the best around ATM. Any advice greatly appreciated...

I’ve never tried any alternative but I have a SumUp Air and my other half has a SumUp Solo. They work well for us, costs are low and they are convenient for us to use. Which unit works best for you depends very much on your use.

If you need a battery that lasts all day the Solo won’t work for you, it needs to go back on it’s charging cradle as battery alone is nowhere near the quoted up to eight hours.

Are you happy to operate via tablet or phone? Wi-Fi or need mobile data? Just one user or shared?

I believe the Solo uses WiFi or cellular network. It will definitely for shared use, but with one account.

Square works well for me. Needs a phone with a signal but you can have multiple readers into a single bank account. PM me if you are going to get one and I think I can refer you for a discount/reward for both of us
