Thinking about getting a pair of front window wind deflectors for Mrs B's car - bit of fresh air into the car without buffeting.
However, before I push a Buy button, does anyone have any feedback - i.e. do they do as advertised and are there any brands which are deemed better fit/quality than others?
Thanks in advance.
Effectiveness really depends on the car design - some car shaping around the A-pillar lend themselves to deflecting air naturally already, whereas others really benefit from them. Heko and ClimAir are the two brands I've used on previous vehicles.
Might be worth enduring whatever owner's forum/FB group exists for your vehicle and seeing if there are any that're particularly well suited to it. In the case of my current Transit Custom, the Heko ones are actually crap (they sit in the window channel and can slow down / burn out the window motor) and a particular generic eBay one (Autoclover) is much better.
Edit to add that I found they do reduce buffeting, although I'd bought them so I can crack the window open a couple of cm for overnight sleeping in the van without rain getting in.
I’ve got Heko on my Insignia and they work a treat, would have them again.
I run some on my T5. Absolutely useless tbh apart from when we're camping and they're dead useful to be able to crack the window an inch or two and not let water in if it rains.
I've had Heko ones before and the fit and quality is good. However, be aware that once they've been on a while they permanently distort the seal the window goes up into, so if you remove them the window will no longer be a tight fit, so you effectively have to leave them in forever or buy new window seals.
I'm usually not a fan of wind deflectors on cars, but I got some for my T6 and I like them. Three benefits
- can leave a window open when asleep inside, stops rain getting in and isn't obvious
- as above but for when I leave the dog in the car
- can open the window a bit when driving with much less noise/buffeting
I have the Heko ones
Got them in my iveco which is horrible for buffeting without them
They serve that purpose well.
Shite for letting air in when parked up as the midges also come in so never use them for that.
Mines are team heko
I've got some heko for my t5 but they make it really awkward to close the windows as the obstruction detection thing on mine seems overly sensitive so I took them back out.
I had my first ever set on my previous car (Volvo XC60) and they actually increased wind noise so I haven't bothered with them again.
Buffettimg and wind noise are separate issues.
No denying they increase windnoise in most cases.
But the pressure differential buffeting with an open window can be unbearable on Some cars.
Heko again, I had them on my Civic, they were great on the front but the backs were useless.
Brilliant for leaving a crack on the window if you suffer from damp windscreens or have a damp interior for whatever reason.
Tried to fit some on my bus when my dad had it but wouldn't play nice with the safety features, don't think they were Heko though.
I had some on my old T5, absolutely useless for their intended purpose, but like others handy for leaving the windows cracked open.
One thing was that if it rained really heavily they stopped the wind that would naturally clear the side window just enough to not be able to see the mirrors. Which was interesting.
