Looking at caddy/ berlingo type cars and a few have been converted for wheelchair use. Now I’ve never looked at the ins and out of this before, and came across this article...

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-3599145/Wheelchair-added-car-increases-insurance-premiums-69.html

which suggests it will add to the insurance premium?! Is this actually true in the real world?

Has anyone bought a vehicle like this and put it back to original spec? Is/was it worth it?

it is true

If its a winch in the back its usually just unbolt the winch and replace the rear seats

if its a ramp in a berlingo then its usually cut in to the floor with a dropped floor to start the ramp + rerouted exhaust (which are bastard expensive to replace) and the spare wheel relocate + new bumper.

My friendly taxi driver mate has one for his work obviously - and said dont do it . The conversion is rattly and road noise is increased.

I looked at it -

basically summised they are cheap for a reason.

The ramps are extra weight and usually mean the rear suspension has been altered to facilitate it too.

Our Alhambra conversion scrubs it's rear tyres to bits because the rear shocks have to be mounted differently.

This also makes the ride harsh and the road noise is dreadful, worse than a van.

Easy to get bikes in and out though, but I wouldn't.
