We had a nail through the tyre at the weekend and used the VW kit with the car.
White gunk in through the valve and then used the compressor to inflate.
The white gunk, VW TMS fluid, is £40.
Fortunately, the garage that fitted the tyres repaired it fine and made no complaint about the gunk in there but reading up on alternatives, they don't get a very good press.
No room for a spare as its a 7 seater.
Michelin have a kit out for £12 which also inflates the tyre partially and they are Michelin tyres so what's the worst that could happen.....
Your point being.......
I know it won't seal that but I have breakdown cover too.
I can't carry a spare tyre.
You're always going to be at risk with the tyre sealant kits that you'll have a puncture that it wont be able to seal - I have no idea what the statistics are on the type of damage tyres sustain and if they are sealable. The only way to be 100% sure is to carry a spare in your boot. However I don't like that idea - I don't like the idea of a heavy wheel flying around the inside of the car in the event of a crash - no straps would restrain the weight of a spare wheel in the event of a pretty bit crash. On the basis i've oly had 2 punctures in my whole 25yr driving career i'm running the risk with the sealant kit that came with the car, a couple of the tyre weld cannisters from Halfords in case the initial sealant kit doesn;'t work and the right coverage with my breakdown provider.
