Hello

I have a question - am replacing 2 x front tyres and the rears are fine ( depth of tread wise at least 3mm ) however they are 6 years old and are showing signs of cracking on the sidewalls - nothing too bad I think but I am wondering how long a tyre should be used for before being replaced due to age - caravan tyres are suggested to be replaced every 5 years.. cannot fing anything on the net re car tyres so anyone here got a suggestion - gut feeling is to replace the whole lot...

Technically you should replace the lot, the age limit is 5 years or so on all tyres IIRC, but ultimately its your choice. I wouldnt replace perfectly usable tyres for a year "out of date" - the likelyhood of problems are about as low as the likelyhood of problems from a pack of eggs a week out of date - sod all, but they are there if you want to be picky. Rear tyres are generally loaded and punished less than fronts too - I might consider replacing fronts if they were obviously cracked, but then I do usually wear out my fronts a LONG time before my rears.
