Well if its dangerous and you can't change the spare in bad weather or don't have a spare this will get you home or somewhere safer.

I thought you could only do 30mph-ish max once you have inflated the tyre?

Who wants to be 200 miles from home and at 30mph with no tyre place?

If you can't get another alloy wheel can you get a cheap steel with the correct size tyre?

AA or RAC cover vs price of another alloy.

It's just because by not having one as standard, the car is that bit lighter and gets a slightly better mpg/CO2 rating.

My current car doesn't - it was annoying when I caught a sharp bit of kerbing next to my drive and tore the sidewall. Went straight down, no chance of a can of foam saving it.

That said, most punctures are nails, screws and the like and tend to be pretty slow - a can of foam will keep you going just fine and saves faffing about with jacks and inadequate wheelbraces to try get nuts off that some muppet airgunned on. No reason why you couldn't have both though.

Personally I like having an extra 60-odd litres of boot space, but then I've (touch wood) not been massively inconvenienced yet by not having a spare wheel.

My car came with run flat tyres - which I ditched as soon as possible. Now got a 12v tyre inflator and Tyre Weld. Even with that, I hope I don't get a flat - the car doesn't even come with a jack or tyre lever!! Progress eh?!

alot of tyre centres won't repair tyres if theve had gunk used.
I'd rather have a full size spare, a space saver at a push, if a car came with an inflation kit, or as continetal call it a comfort kit, then i'd be buying a spare wheel, in some shape or form.

I'm tyre engineer by profession & chose to pay an extra €60 for a temp spare. The dealer left the 'temporary mobility kit' in car so I have both options now.

The TMK does work well in many instances but as mentioned above - a torn sidewall for example - makes it kind of useless...

About as much use as a chocolate teapot in most circumstances. The DB9 I had tore a side-wall and it just pissed out the side.

TBH if I get a flat, I'll call BMW Assist.

No room for a spacesaver wheel unless you hog the boot - if I got anywhere far, I'll get one though.

My Golf (R32) was the same - no spare and just Tyre Weld and a compressor. Handy for inflating airbeds when camping though!
