I have one on my car which I bought a while back second hand. How do these things work?
I had assumed when the car gets nicked the police can locate it with the tracker, but it appears I need to pay a subscription?
Without this subscription is my insurance void as I stated I had a tracker when I insured the car?
Sound slike it works by paying a subscription.
My van had a tracker when i bought it. I removed it all it ever did was cause the battery to run out.
Yep pay your subscription, when car gets nicked tracker can be followed (with exceptions but I'm not going I to it on a public forum of how to get round them/find them/defeat them)
As forr your insurance yep, if your car gets knicked and you claim they will not pay out!
Best advice is ring insurance and fess up or pay additional amount on your premium or pay subscription on the Tracker.

Your insurance isn't void in the sense that it would be illegal to drive your car.
But if you needed to claim and they found out you don't actually have the tracker you said you had, they are very unlikely to pay out on the claim.
Just called insurance co...same price with or without a tracker but £30 quid to untick the 'tracker fitted' box!
So if I have a tracker fitted can the police not track the car without the subscription? Didn't say on my insurance I had to have an ongoing subscription, only that I had one fitted...granted I'm sure they'd probably try to wiggle out of it.
Without a subscription You dont have a tracker.
You have a black box of power use that does nothing.

They shouldn't need to specify.
You said you had a tracker. They presumed that you knew what that actually meant.
As it turns out, you don't have a tracker fitted. You own some equipment that is capable of being used as a tracker, but it is currently not in use.
It's a bit like just buying an alarm isn't enough, it needs to be installed and working too.
Needs a active subscription to give a discount on the insurance, well worth it in my experience.
I had a Subaru Impreza with a tracker fitted, the discount on the insurance was minimal so I didn't see any point in paying the subscription. When the car got stolen the police asked the tracker company to start monitoring the tracker, but they refused unless we ( or the police or insurance company) paid for a years subscription. At that stage I didn't really want the car back so didn't pay - there was also no gaurantee that it would actually work. The police didn't seem overly surprised at the tracker companies attitude, after all there would be no point paying a subscription if they turned them on anyway when the car was stolen.
Today when surfing indiegogo I came across an interesting project. It's called UON. Its developers describe UON as a device, which helps in all main spheres of life. It equipped with a SOS button and tracker https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/uon-first-modular-android-monitoring-device/x/10228528 You can use it on only for tracking.

Probably, in theft cases...
