I am just about to change my car, had quotes from Cazoo, WBAC etc that I was happy with.

Sods law, had a minor coming together in a car park today. Bit of an exchange of paint, not worth getting insurance involved. My bumper has been left with a couple of scratches a 2mm wide X 100mm long.

Worth getting repaired or take the hit at trade in?

Get a quote from a smart repair place.

Or look at bvla guide to see what it might mean. Mine is missing the front towing eye and has a reasonable number of scuffs/chips and I got a ridiculous number on part ex, certainly wasn't going to be worth the hassle of fixing them.

Cheers. I've never used one of those SMART repair places before. I usually drive my cars into the floor and trade them in for peanuts.

Actually you have to advise your insurance company regardless of whether or not you decide to claim and it will unfortunately affect your premium too. Ask me how I know…🙄

oh and “smart” repairs are excellent these days. I’ve used Chips Away before with excellent results. If the plastic on the bumper is scored though then they may not touch it.

Yes sure, I know that. But in the hypothetical, parallel universe where I don't tell them I might just get it fixed on the sly. Go on then, what happened to you?

So a bloke reversed into me while I was stationary in a car park queue for the exit. He decided to reverse into a space behind him and basically didn't bother looking. He then tried to claim that I drove into him. I asked all the drivers near if they saw what happened and none of them saw anything.

So I ring my insurance company and ask them to claim off his insurance and basically they said no. They said I would have to claim off my own insurance first and then they would try to claim it back but because I didn't have legal cover it might not go in my favour if the other party denied it. I decided I couldn't be bothered with the hassle as it was only slight damage anyway  (the SMART repair was £200).  So I left it at that. Next time I went to renew my policy I ticked the no accidents or claims in the last five years box and it popped up words to the effect of " Aren't you forgetting about  this one...?" . I then added that into my quote saying not at fault and no claim and got a whole load more quotes only more expensive. I then rang my insurance company and said how come I have a claim registered against me and they said it's not a claim it's a "notification". I said well it's increased my premiums and I wish I hadn't rung you now as you were completely no help at all. They replied unfortunately sir if you hadn't rung us you would have been committing insurance fraud or words to that effect...

On top of that I they kept ringing me back asking if I was absolutely sure I didn't have any neck injuries.

Have you even tried polishing it out yet yourself? It might surprise you how less worse it looks and that might alter what you do

WBAC basically deduct money for each and every scratch or defect they find. The guy who inspected my car was very thorough except for the rusty crease in my roof cause by hitting the height restriction in a car park with my bike that ripped-off the roof rail 🤣

Try shoe polish or wax crayon, buff them out when dry

I had a small 50p sized dent pulled out of the rear quarter by a chips away type guy for £60, it looked mint and I was very happy. Last year some tool reversed into the front wing and pressed it in with their tyre somehow, again minor but the door caught the wing on opening so needed sorted. Chips guy wouldn't do it so I went to the local bodyshop, he took the dent out and did a cracking job with a small respray and took out some other cosmetic scuffs at the same time. £200 and again well pleased. Yours sounds somewhere near the cheaper end of the scale

Buy a touch up pen from the local dealer and touch in yourself. Will often be enough to get itpast a quick walk around part ex check.

Will have to clean about 2mm of winter road grime off the back before I can do anything. I thought it would act like protective shell, but it didn't work😉

When you say you have a quote from WBAC have they actually seen the car or is that just an online quote?
