Following on from the helpful thread on Creete Car rental , here goes for Seville. I have not rented a foreign car since before Covid.
This is for 6 days. There are a couple of super cheap companies 'RecordGo', 'OKMobility' at £22-35 for a little car.
After that the likes of Enterprise , Alamo etc are more like £90-100.
Should I stick with a known name or are these , unknown brands to me OK ?
Instinct tells me the RecordGo prices look too good to be true
I don't want to piddle on your chips but I reckon hire cars could potentially be in short supply in Spain after the terrible flooding totalled so many vehicles, and insurance companies will be swooping on them all for claimants.
Had the same thought. But there does appear to be cars available to book at least. Whether they honor it, time will tell.
I'd probably go with Enterprise.
But whatever you go with, make sure you double and triple check the car before leaving, take extensive photos and videos of the entire car (including the wheels). We nearly got stiffed in Venice airport, clearly a scam - the guy went direct to the rear right wheel and tried to claim a scuff on the rim was our fault. He didn't bother checking the other wheels... fortunately we had a video, and we could shut him up. The cheaper companies operating in Spain also have a reputation for this kind of behaviour.
I'd go with your gut, OP, if it were my money. Chances are you'd *probably* be OK with the cheaper ones, but how much is peace of mind worth?
I debated this myself recently having looked at some stories of damage claims from smaller cheaper brands so decided to go with Avis out of Madrid airport the week before last, having used them in the US for years with no problems.
Pretty much the same story as mogrim, minutes after returning i received an email for tyre damage, which was clearly evident in the video i had on pick up. Headed back up to query with them, held up my phone and they didn't even look before cancelling the cost.
My presumption is that they have already made a tidy sum of this and will continue to chance it so get the full walk round video and pictures and review their damage list against it before accepting.
Is a car definitely needed? Seville has some great public transport, and bikes for hire all over the place (like Santander bikes, plus the city is plan flat)
Car definitely needed, yes. But only for the second week. Week one is in Seville Town. Week two we head up to the hills for some country air.
Thanks all. We'll go sensible. We had a similar story in Sicily a good few years ago. The front grill was all bashed up on pickup.
Check out Bar Europa, a couple of minutes walk from the cathedral. Great interior, inventive menu, not overly busy or expensive and visited by guided foodie groups.

Went with hertz, all good and no charges on return.
The car was a basic fiat 500 hybrid manual. Gutless and really uncomfortable driving position.
I'll go small again but get an automatic to minimise all the gear changes required with a gutless car
RecordGo are one of the decent rental companies that I would seek out over Hertz and Avis when in Spain. Spain, and especially Mallorca, has way too many rental cars and it costs to store them in the off season so there's bargains to be had.
