So I sold my old car a few years ago and wanted to see if its still around etc..

When I enter the reg into the DVLA or any car parts website it says the car does not exist

Now when the car was bought brand new it was put straight onto a private plate by the 1st owner, who then took that plate off and had a new plate issued by the DVLA ready for when I bought it

I used this reg for tax, mot, buying parts etc with no issues and sold the car with this plate

So why isn't it showing up anywhere now?

The reg when I sold it was HS16 RUO

Scrapped? I just did a search for one I sold years ago which was definitely destined for the scrap yard and that is a "not found".

I wouldn't of thought it had been scrapped as it still should show up on the DVLA website

Cars I scrapped 20+ years ago still show up as no tax or mot from the year I scrapped them

It could be on a private plate again

A car I had that was scrapped 8 years ago comes up as 'not found' on the Tax & MoT check site

Yep that's it thanks, how did you find that it has had a plate change?

According to the DVLA website using that new reg the last log book change was 20th Dec 23, I sold it in August 23

Just checked that reg on another site and it comes up with 4 owners (i was the 2nd) so I'm guessing the guy I sold it to in August 23 moved it on pretty quickly

There are a few websites out there for tracking car stuff, and this is just one I subscribe to - can’t rely on the data too much, but in this case gives you what you need I hope 😀
