So the flexi hose between the MAF (Mass air flow-meter) and the inlet manifold has split (perished rubber). What effect would this have had on fuel economy and power?
Im guessing that it would be under fuelling so down on power, as there is un-metered air getting into the system?
More importantly fuel economy seemed to be down recently.
I've fixed the problem with duck tape for now, used it to seal the ribbed bit from rogue air, so it should all be going through the airbox (and hence MAF) again.
Its a Mazda 323, not that its really relevant.

I'd leave it like that until it breaks and them re-apply
Duct tape will do fine for now but for a more permanent repair use self amalgamating rubber tape or Gorilla tape, and your car will be overfuelling to compensate for the increased air flow whilst feeling underpowered, get it sealed properly otherwise your plugs may start to foul up and unburnt fuel may start to destroy the platinum plates in the catalytic converter
I've got a gas tight seal on the hose, so it should be fine for now.
