Drove my car to work this morning, had to drive through a flooded section of road, car was running fine before and after this, parked at work (left in gear).
Upon starting it when I left work (started it neutral with clutch in) I tried to put it in to gear (reverse) and it wouldn’t go in (gear lever wouldn’t travel all the way) I tried other gears, no joy, tried rolling it, no joy.
Turned it off, car would go in to gear when engine off. Started it again, tried all of the above, no joy. Turned it off and put it in gear but this time I left it in gear and started it again, it stalled, I started it again and it was perfectly fine and ran fine all the way home (stop start traffic and stopping off at the shops).
Any pointers? It’s a petrol Skoda Octavia, couldn’t tell if any leaks as everywhere is soaking wet. Thanks
connecting rods?
Pressure plate flywheel and friction material was prob stuck together with abit of corrosion. Starting in gear with clutch depressed will of broke that corrosion. Bit of driving and changing gear and it’s good as new.
EDIT : Never mind. Read it properly this time 🙂
Thanks all. Hope you’re right parkesie
I had the exact same problem in a petrol golf (practically the same car) after a bit of fording. Dunno what it was, but you’ll be glad to hear Problem went away and never came back for the years I had it.
Same as the above. Had it my my mk5 golf. Went through some water and then parked up fairly quickly - needed more time to heat up and evaporate the water I think. Not had it since.
Ever had a beer mat stick to your glass ? Thats what the clutch pressure plate did , it will be a one off so dont worry.
