2 year old Berlingo 1.2 petrol. Last week it gave me a "Top up engine oil" message after a 3 mile drive and parked for about an hour. Checked the dipstick and it was about 1/4 up from low. Added 250ml of oil which brought the dipstick up to the middle. All seemed fine.

Yesterday after an hours drive and parked for an hour I got the same message with a "check engine oil" message. Oil level was fine. This morning checked again and still have the same messages. Oil level still fine. Had a look under the car and could see a small drip forming. (Gravel drive so can't see anything on the floor). Can't see where it's leaking from as there is a large cover under the engine with a small hole in the middle where the drip is forming.

It's under warranty so booked in for Wednesday but strange as it's so new with only 8k miles on it. Could it be something as simple as a loose oil filter and bad sensor?

Yes it could. Provided you haven’t run it too low it should be fine. I had similar on my car in the early days, turned out to be a small crack in the filter housing, replaced under warranty. I doubt it is anything serious.

I can't say for that car but those I've had with oil level sensors tend to trigger quite early.
Opening the bonnet can reset the light despite the level still triggering the sensor next time it starts.

Basically fill it to the max line and get the leak fixed under warranty.

Have you checked it's an oil leak?

Lots of bits of the engine will accumulate water when it's sat still, or when it's running and leave puddles when it's parked.

Or if you're anything like me, what portion of the actual oil from a full bottle made it into the filler 🤣

Last Citroën van I had, that hole in the under tray was directly under the sump plug. Might be that needs a nip up.
