I've only ever bought a nice car once doing finance with the dealer.
The car got stolen off my drive 2 years later, thankfully I had taken out Gap insurance after reading you guys recommended it.
So which firm do you recommend now to get some compensation or is it easy to do it yourself (I have all the loan details)
(For those that'll come on to moan ..... Hate the game not the players)
Go to Martin Lewis's site. It has it all there.

If you are on about the Car Finance mis-selling that's going through the court now - then just use the MoneySavingExpert guide. It's dead easy.

DO NOT USE a compensation firm as they will skim a huge chuck from any payouts that may be coming.
EDIT - as it's still being ruled on in the courts nothing has been agreed yet re payout amounts so no one knows how much (if anything) customers will get back. Don't fall for the big number promises.
Thanks. Done.
Sorry I was being lazy/knew you guys would have a good answer ... before I looked myself.
It's really easy to do yourself on Martin Lewis' moneyexpert site

As above, don’t fall for any adverts promising payouts. They all deserve a slow cruel painful death for trying to take advantage of people who don’t know any better!!
I emailed VWFS they came back and said none of you agreements used the interest method under discussion. So firstly just email the loan provider and secondly, don't assume there will be a payout, even if there is an agreement put in place.

They rely on people wanting to take the easy way out and to be fair to them, they do a lot of the legwork (mostly because their commission depends on it!). And since financial paperwork, receipts, bills, contracts etc can sound overwhelming and complicated and "I'm not sure where those are", they do remove all that.
But yes, the MoneySupermarket / Martin Lewis sites have all the info you need and it's very straightforward. Ultimately, the finance companies (and credit card companies, when recovering mis-sold credit was a big thing) know they are onto a losing streak and they rarely put up too much resistance once you've started the claim.
Martin says you don't even need to make a claim and that the finance companies have been told to check their details and make payments to all affected people. They're not sure how much is being paid out yet though, as theres still another court case at the supreme court that could affect things. He doesn't think it will though.

😂 Yeah, not as cool as a new bike, but I need a new dishwasher and potentially fridge/freezer as well!
Although saying that if I hadn't just bought a Cotic RocketMax I might be able to afford the new kitchen stuff....
Priorities though eh!!
ha .... I'm just trying to recoup monies lost through share schemes going down the pan.
(I work for a sub of one of the financial firms involved)
I've done one direct with BMW Finance. Had a letter through the other day saying it's moved forward and should be settled by December.
Definitely avoid these firms that are advertising everywhere, bloody leeches

I'm holding out for a sex-pond!
Well - it seems I'm not getting a sex pond with only a few hundred quid compensation! 🤣
...but, as this claims procedure dates back to 2007 we've had at least two other cars on PCP in that time but no longer have any of the documents and have moved house since. Think I'll have to do some research on those and see if I can track down some info.
Used a loan to purchase my car 20 odd years ago, so doesn't apply, and cash for the current one. Same with MrsF - car purchased years ago.
but no longer have any of the documents and have moved house since.
I went on to the money saving website and they have a letter generator, and as long as you have your dates and reg numbers and addresses at the time, it'll create the letter and tell you the correct lender email. Took me 5 mins. BMW finance acknowledged the claim with an auto response within 5 mins. Waiting to hear if I get some ££

Never had a car new enough to require finance. My current car I had enough to pay the deposit and the balance was handled by my bank account manager while I was on the phone to her in the dealership - the car was a Motability vehicle that had some damage repaired and was being sold on.
Couldn’t do that now, my bank, like most others, no longer has staff to deal directly with actual people with problems. 😒
Oddly enough, I had a letter arrive yesterday, from the Case Review Unit, Check Finance, in London, saying that their records indicate that I may be due compensation on my previous Car Finance Agreement.
I have no recollection of actually entering into a car finance agreement, unless my bank loan for the balance of the value of the car counts as such.
I guess I’ll let things go on and see what happens. I can’t ask my account manager as the bank has got rid of anyone who was actually customer facing, and I’m not sure if she even works for the bank any more, in a different position. 🤷🏼♂️

That would be a scam letter then. They're trying to get your permission to hunt around for finance and complain.
