I've always fancied a Jag - this probably comes from coveting them when I was a yoof many moons ago.  They seemed to go incredibly dull (X-Type, for example) but the XE seems to get good reviews.

Does anyone own one and, if so, would you care to share any good/bad points.

I quite fancy the R-Sport model budget permitting!

Thanks in advance,
GQ

Mate had an XE estate. Was a lovely car and he loved it. He's had Audi's, BMW's and all the usual cars from the usual German stables and he though it easily stood up against them in all areas. It was a company car so had to get rid and got a BMW X4 as he wanted to go the SUV route....hates it and he's had nothing but trouble from it. He's replacing it with an F-Pace as soon as his car replacement is up.

A bit different from the usual dull offerings from the German brands - nicer design, nicer interior. Easily worthy of consideration.

I’ve got the XE 180bhp diesel, R Sport spec. It’s a lot nicer to drive than the 3 series it replaced, and feels pretty smart. The ICE isn’t as nice as the BMW I-Drive, and cabled Spotify connectivity is a bit patchy at times. Bluetooth streaming as standard though.

The standard audio is a bit gutless so get the Meridian if you can. Similarly I’ve only heard bad things about the manual - we had one on order but got a free upgrade to the auto which is excellent.

Woobliscott - I think you're on about the XF estate, the isn't an estate version of the XE

Colleague had an XE as a company car, it seemed ok but major fail was that the rear seats didn't fold down at all! How can a car at that price not have folding rear seats??

FIL replaced his XF with an XE last year. Haven’t driven it myself but it seems a nice place to be as a passenger. Toys like the various cameras, hud etc are nice. His is a 3(?) ltr diesel.

I’ve been a big fan of Jags ever since I was a kid but the only two cars they have ever made that leave me cold are the x-type and the XE.

It’s trying too hard to be a BMW 3 series that it forgets to be a Jag.

Get an XF instead.

Cheers for the info - I like the look of the XE but the XF is just too big for what I need.

Perhaps I should keep saving and get an F-Type 🙂

I love my XF Sportbrake. It's got a practical boot for dog, bikes or whatever but with the pokey 3l diesel still goes like stink when required.  Even more important when you turn the engine on the fan vents automatically rotate open

+1 for XF sportbrake in the 3.0 v6 variety - super torquey and very rapid but also refined if you want to cruise along...

Father in law has XE auto.

It's a lovely car, not quite as Jag feeling / not quite the occasion climbing into an XF/etc feels like. He has better stereo, rest is basic spec. I like it.

He did climb in our V70 though and comment he should have gone with the S60/S80....

Pocpoc - I got the fold down seats as an option. The handles for these in the boot are pretty poor tbh, not as nice as those on other cars.

Mate had an xe diesel, I don’t know the spec/power or that, but he told me how long it took him to get to devon and I burst out laughing because I didn’t believe it was possible.

he’s not prone to exaggerate, and he said it could go like ****.

know quite a few people who have/had x types, every one of them says the same thing, the Ford bits are fine, but anything that’s actually jag isn’t fine.

i would buy an xe, if I wanted a big comfy car.

i don’t even know what this means. I know the thing is a tarted-up Mondeo, but what’s wrong with a good car that has been given nice trim?

In any case, mine is a 57 reg, and not only has it always worked flawlessly, it sailed through its last MOT with not a fault. Oh that, and it both looks good and drives very nicely.

Apologies to any X-type owners, but it was never a Jag, and the boss of Jaguar said it was a mistake to ever sell it as such.

Haven't driven an XE but I've had the pleasure of experiencing a 600BHp F-type.

Sell your children.

Sell them now!

There is bugger all in common between an XE and an X-Type. Don’t let the old stereotypes and jokes put you off what is a very very good car.

The design is very simple but it grows on you. The handling is much between than the German equivalents.

Read the spec carefully, as pointed out, and common to all ‘premium’ manufacturers, things like split fold rear seats tend to be options.

I went for the XF myself, as I need the size in the back, but I’ve driven the XE, and it’s great. The 3l supercharged petrol engine is the one to have 🙂

Advice from people who actually have the cars here:  https://www.xeforums.co.uk

Nothing wrong with an x type really, but the ford mondeo did everything at least equally as well for less money.

We had about 30 of them at my work, as soon as the lease was over we switched to mondeos.

They are decent to drive, but not in the same league as an xe.

If yours has sailed through an mot, it’s obviously a good one, so keep it, but they weren’t all that good.

Currently have a 3-series and pondering what to get next too.

I qualify for employee discount on JLR vehicles, so an XE seems like it would be an obvious choice, so I took one for a test drive.

Pros:

- I thought the fundamentals of the driving experience felt great (steering, gearbox, engine). On par with my 3 series.

- I think there was a little less road-noise than the 3-series, possibly down to lack of run-flat tyres (which are a pro for the BMW in my view).

Negatives:

- Armrest on the door seems to be nowhere near my arm - for me this would be an issue on longer journeys. Carwow review also mentioned the same.
- Entertainment / sat-nav is a long way behind my 2015 3-series, let alone a 2018 one. Slow, no Carplay and touch-screen only.
- Niggling concerns about build quality / reliability. Compare and contrast a couple of BMW and JLR forums. Seems to be far more people talking about niggles with their cars which don't get resolved and 'rejecting' new vehicles on the Jaguar side.

Would've been nice to support the 'home team', but stupid as it might sound, the armrest is a deal-breaker for me, as it will stop me being comfortable in the vehicle, but the tech is also a big factor in why I'll probably rule out the XE. Shame really.

Bikes are the new golf. Just try and let it wash over you.

The X type was pretty crap to be honest ..I had two as company cars and they didn't feel that special.

The S type that I had ( 2.8 twin turbo diesel ) was a lovely car ..and I was sad to say goodbye .

That's the last Jag that I have driven ...11 years ago but really like the look of the F Pace ..however it's just not practical to own right now ..

I did see an Xe on a repossessed vehicle site ..but couldn't progress my interest ( must have been a con ) ..2016 model low mileage £10, 500..yeah right !!
