Just had an e-mail reminder through from my car insurance provider,it expies at the end of the month, and despite yet another year without any claim, the renewal price is £132 up on last year...FFS!

So,20 minutes spent searching on line & i've bought a policy with another company and saved myself £210...Result!! 😀

Same here for my van insurance renewal. The renewal quote was near £850. After a phonecall to them they dropped it £150 which made my mind up to not use them anyway. Half an hour on the internet and got a better policy for £450.

I wonder how many people just renew without bothering to check alternative qoutes?I know that I used to do just that, glad I didn't now.

Bit more cash to spend on biking!

I feel proper left out, my renewal quote was the lowest I could find - 43 y/o, Mondeo petrol, never claimed and still a touch over £300 fully comp, legal assistance, protected bonus etc.

thought I'd be able to ring round and get it near £200 but no chance.

Same for me too, an increase of £300 this year dispite getting another years no claims. I just went elsewhere and saved a massive £380!

Would it be the AA by any chance?

I used moneymarket.com last year to get insurance for my BMW 330Ci and the lowest quote I had was with Admiral, which did surprise me being one of the bigger companies so I plumbed for them. A year later, renewal came and although it was cheaper I still looked on the net and got two quotes cheaper but didn't quite have what I wanted. So I rang Admiral, spoke to a very polite lady, told her the details from the other quotes, mixing the best bits from both to try and get a better deal from her. A short silence as she had to speak to her "supervisor" and then she came back, way cheaper than their quote, cheaper than anyone on the net and also over a longer term. All for the sake of a phone call. Lesson learned - never accept what is put up in front of you but haggle. In my case it certainly worked and saved me £75 and got me two extra months.
And by the way, as for Direct Line who don't use price comparisson sites I can see why. Absolutely way way more expensive than what I pay now, in fact nearly twice as much. So use the net and the price sites and get the best deal for you.

had teh same with my house insurance. Direct line sent renewal at £410, went on their website and asked for a quote - £182! Rang them and they said take th eonline deal and scrap the renewal.

Why didn't they just renew at the £182, save everyone a load of time and hassle.

A couple of years ago I used confused.com, when I bought my Octavia TDi. The very best I found was Yes.com, for £185, down from £330 for my previous Puma. The next year Yes went up to £210, but being lazy I let it go. Anyway this year confused sent me a list of insurers, top of the list was Churchill, at £155. Yes didn't send me a renewal notice, so I went with Churchill, and when Yes finally sent me details they'd gone up to £285! I might have got Churchill down, but their quote I reckon to be as good as any.

I always think insurance companies should be done with theft/attempted theft when they send out a renewal. If you call they always nearly lower the price.

As for Northern Ireland car insurance 🙄

But Direct Line started here 2-3 years ago, and they have been consistently about £300 cheaper than anyone else. £380 for group 16/17.

I stuck my renewal into a comparison thing, and my current insurance company came out cheapest but by £500 less (!!) than the renewal they sent me. Phoned them up and they didn't even try arguing against giving me the lower price. I guess they just make a fortune from chumps who don't check the comparison sites
