Got my renewal notice and after a bit of haggling they'll do it for about £20 less than last year.

Before I go off and spend a soul crushing evening getting alternative quotes does anyone know if the market is generally up, down or where it was last year?

law of diminishing returns though, isn't it? if you've already secured £20 off, I'd probably settle for that 🙂

As you say, alternative is an evening of your time spent entering the same data. Lat year we though "sod it" and simply went to the local NFU Mutual office all sorted (this for a newly purchased car) with minimal fuss.

YMMV but £20 would be just shy of 10% off, little chance of getting good cover for less than that?

I am on lowest premium possible -£160 from any major insurer. So this years £70 cash back and pressure washer was a bit of a bargain...

I've never found the best quote on a comparison site...

A bit of searching would suggest that the renewal quote is competitive.

Oh well... that's £800 gone 🙁

Liverpool Victoria, by phone.

They were great - Sue got a good deal, I phoned them when mine was due and they just charged me the same price as they'd charged her - saved me £200.

Car insurance is up on last year, although all time low for under-18s. If that helps.

Renewal quoted was £650, confused.com listed them at cheapest for £440, called and gave ref no - so down about £100 from last year, though to be fair that was when I had 0 no claims discount.

That includes full rac membership, recovery/onward travel etc.

Price is no longer my main driver in insurance

Having had 2 of my family in non fault accidents and seeing how thy have been treated in claims im alot more warey of who i use now.

The underwriter flux uses for alot of their policies "markerstudy" i would throw more petrol on if i saw them on fire. Absolute scum. Left my dad in a french hospital after a vehicle veered fully onto his side of road. feeding him and his mates lies about insurance and saying he was not covered- and still maintain this currently, my wallet took a hammering on that one.

Admiral are about as much use as a wet news paper. Even with video footage showing a car going from parked up with door open to hard acceleration in to the passenger door of my wifes car as she passed still paid out and said this was our fault.

Conversly direct line paid out on a previous at fault accident my dad had when his motorbikes gearbox jammed up at speed. Within 3 weeks my dad had a new bike and the case was settled.

I now have 2 cars and my house policy with direct line and my landy on a classics policy with herritage on agreed value

Im pretty certain all 4 policies combined cost less than your car hts
