You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I hate shopping around for stuff like this. I really do. So I generally don't. But in the case of car insurance, simply leaving it to renew ends up costing stupid amounts of money. My renewals for this year, after 9 years of custom, are £70 for one car and £90 for the other per month.
A quick go on Compare the Market shows £35 and £22 respectively!
However these two quotes are not on the same provider, so I'm thinking about these multi-car discounts that you can get - wondering if it's worth calling other companies directly or just going with CTM's best effort and being done with it.
£22?
what are you driving this?
Direct Line may be worth trying for multi vehicle.
They are a "roof rack is a modification" insurer so if you put the bikes up top make sure you tell them.
At bruneep I assume those are his monthly costs.
Oh yes the old special price for valued customer BS.
Last week I did the meerkat comparison, worked out a couple decent deals with reputable insurance companies then just rang Direct Line cancellation department (my existing insurer) and straight up said 'look, I've got your renewal quote, it's way too much. X and Y are offering me comparable cover for substantially less. Can you match them please?'
The premium was reduced by 50% there and then!
So yes it's ghastly business but it seems well worth the effort. I was quite prepared to switch and ditch but didn't have to, so an extra win.
Direct Line may be worth trying for multi vehicle.
I'm with direct line. I phoned up and told them.my other quotes and they reduced the premium to around 2.5x what the quotes were instead of 3x.
Fair play molgrips. I had that same experience with Admiral. I think it must be part of the business model of some insurers.
Had a similar situation with another insurer before that.
Renew two or three times, don't make a claim and then get a "go away somewhere else" renewal quote. I wonder if they think the longer you're with them at some point it's more likely to cost them a claim.
I've just renewed, £350 with direct line.
My previous insurer weren't interested when I told them I needed 20k miles this year, Vs 15k they insured me for last year.
Price comparisons came out at 450 upwards - not sure if it's the mileage or rear wheel drive that was making it expensive elsewhere, haven't paid that much for years.
£1200 saved. Kerching.
It's all very random. Both cars now insured with different companies because my wife and I got different best quotes.
Did this over the weekend, Admiral wanted 900 ish for both cars. Got some rough quotes through some comparison websites and managed to get it down to 440 through Churchill. Rang Admiral back but they would only take it down as far as just under 700 so the renewal was cancelled and for this year we're customers of Churchill.
Well worth shopping around
Oh and our voluntary excess is also down to 100 from 250
