..am I right to be indignant? No renewal letters or emails of any form, just a quiet transition a couple of weeks back. Only realised when I woke up in a cold sweat last night thinking I'd been driving uninsured, and logged in to check my policy.. don't even know what rates I'm expected to pay! Will phone up later to have stern words, but how stern should I be? Have they broken any laws or have I missed some small print?
Admiral car insurance fwiw
My Admiral insurance auto-renews. They do send an email with the details though. Maybe it went into your spam folder?
Read the small print, check the address and communications preferences.
So you’re annoyed that they auto-renewed but if they hadn’t you would have been uninsured?
bastards saving you from breaking the law.
bet you signed up to an auto-renew when you took out the policy.
Better than driving uninsured....
So you’re annoyed that they auto-renewed but if they hadn’t you would have been uninsured?
Pretty much- initial reaction was "phew" followed by "oi!"
No renewals emails since this time last year, nothing came through spam either as I check and clear it regularly
Have been with them a few years and have always had manual renewal- didn't sign up to change to auto
<span style="font-size: 0.8rem;">It's inertia selling.</span>
Most auto renew by default, I always get them to remove the option. I don't forget when my car insurance is up, but if you're the forgetful type telling them not to auto-renew makes sure you get plenty of reminders.
We’ve been with Admiral a couple of times, they generally send an email and letter about renewal which says it’ll auto-renew unless you state otherwise.
So you’re annoyed that they auto-renewed but if they hadn’t you would have been uninsured?
No, because he would have received a reminder that they were going to auto-renew, which would have reminded him that the insurance needed renewing.
No comms from Admiral since I changed car back in March. Hmm.
I've been with Admiral for years, I think it was only last renewal I noticed I didn't get any warning in advance (I usually check around and call them saying xyz are cheaper to get a bet renewal price). I don't think it actually went up (or by very little) so I didn't bother making a fuss but yeah I remember thinking it was a bit under-hand.
Depends what's in your existing contract about auto renewal. When I was with admiral they sent an email about the renewal cost, at which point I moved due to the cost.
They all do it. Makes sure you are not breaking the law.
Yes they may not get in touch but 9 X out of 10 they are more expensive.
OP just plan your life better, your fault get on with it
Haha but harsh but fair! Shouldn't have taken out insurance during exam period all those years ago eh..
Driving Without Insurance
£300 - £unlimited Fine
6-12 points
Potential seize and destroy your vehicle.
And tou you don’t always even know you have been spotted by the ANPR until the letter lands on your mat
so you don’t know how many times your number plate has been snapped and checked over the last 2 weeks
Just be thankful Admiral are more organised than you are 👍
We ended up being with Admiral a year longer than I wanted because of this. It was a policy in my wife's name. I think they rang twice, missed both times. They are definitely quieter than other compainies when it comes to renewal/auto-renewal
I’ve had a message and an email from the AA about my insurance renewal, the thing is, my last insurance was with Privilege, I can’t even remember when I last insured through AA, and I’m now insured through Saga.
I’ll be phoning them later.
