I am 37, had a licence for 19 years, no points, no convictions, no claims in 10 years. I have a classic Beetle worth £4k and it is insured fully comp for just under £200 a year through Footman James.
I need to buy a modern car as I have parted with my partner. Our current car is hers with me as a named driver and has been for a few years so I have no no-claims to apply to a policy. So for a Passat worth about £2.5k Footman James quoted me £2700 to insure fully comp 😯
You could buy a bike for that! 😆

Crikey ... that's more than my 1st insurance payment (I paid nearly £2,500)with provisional UK license.
I'd guess Footman James prefers Beetles to repmobiles and prices accordingly. I found elephant and quotemehappy good for accepting named driver years of NCD without undue hassle.
Mate insures his r1 third party fire and theft for £120/year. He's been "down the road" a fair few times as well, so yes buy a bike, a real bike that is...
Some companies will mirror your beetle policy, we took advantage of this for Mrs BS, they insured her on a new policy as if my no claims were hers, at the end of the year without incident she received the 5 years no claims as her own.
I'd get yourself on moneysupermarket or a broker for better rates.
A bit old than you, but my Passat costs me £160 comp.
tbh Whenever any car insurance is due I just use www.confused.com - and then call the current company to either pay, haggle or say goodbye.
Try a broker like Adrian Flux.
I am 30, have been driving 10 years with no claims, but always as a named driver on someone else's policy and in a company vehicle so I have not accrued any no claim bonus.
But for the last four years I've had my camper insured for £9k and it has cost £300 a year as they use your claims history/years driving rather than my non-existent no claims bonus. Just changed insurer this week and it has gone down to £250.
A couple of years ago I had an Audi A4 desiel, about 2 years old. Went onto compare the market and the insurance quotes ranged from £290 to £18,500. I have feeling that the latter one really didn't want to insure me!
It was admiral and direct line who were cheapest in the end.
