Had car stolen off drive. Was not recovered. Insurance replaced the vehicle and insurance now due for renewal. Cheapest quote I can get is over £50 a month over the last time we renewed.
My question is is that as we have our NCB protected, shouldn't any new car insurance quote not reflect the fact that we have had a claim?
It's your risk profile that's changed, you now live in an area proven to be susceptible to car theft. You'll still get X years of discount, but on a more expensive premium. Sucks as you're clearly not at fault, but that's the fact of it I'm afraid.
Your NCB is protected, your base price just went up by the cost of your stolen car amortised over the next 5 years.
You've proven you live in an area where car theft occurs so expect your premium to INCREASE. Have you compared your quote with last year's pre-NCD quote?
Your premium's gone up because you've had a claim, you still have your NCB but now it's applied to the higher premium. I had this myself, I'm not really sure what the value of a protected NCD is tbh though I suppose without one they'd up the premium because of the previous claim then also apply a smaller NCD. Whether you'd be better off depends how much you're paying to protect your NCD. An extra £50 a month sounds rich though, is that with the same company?
Protected NCB is a joke.
I used to work with a guy who got 18 months for drunk driving, his car insurance went up a whole 20 quid after that.
But by god, don't get your car stolen!.
On any insurance post on here I regularly say protected no claims is a waste of time and usually get roundly slated for it. Thanks for clearing it up a bit for the non believers.
That sounds a big increase. I had two cars stolen of my drive a few years ago. One was my own car but insured by my employer, the other was my own car with my own insurance. From memory the premium on my own policy only went up a hundred pounds the so - although thinking about it the car stolen was a slightly modified Impreza, and it was replaced with a diesel golf. So that may be why the increase was small!
Several years later I am now back to sensible premiums.
Renewal the year after I got rear ended causing a whole £117 (no I've not missed a digit) of damage that the third party paid personally was £500 higher. It was only £400 to start with. Shopping around brought it back to the old cost.
protected no claims is a waste of time
Maybe, maybe not, because
without one they’d up the premium because of the previous claim then also apply a smaller NCD
It sure isn't what most people think they're buying though!
