I hired a car in Dubrovnik early September from Budget, only actually it was Avis when we got there.
Bloke asked if we wanted additional insurance, i said no as we have our own. He was happy
He then said the car was outside, but had lots of damage , and there was no way it could all be recorded on the system. Just take loads of videos/pictures.
He then quickly asked me to sign the agreement which was a series of pages on an ipad.
The car was scratched and dented all over so took lots of video (although quite a new car)
We didnt get a copy of the hire agreement by email
Returned the car at the end of the holiday and no quibbles.
Week later we notice a £250 charge or the credit card, and a paper hire agreement follows in the post. The papers show
Budget Inclusive Promo £***. Their customer services have said that a charge for additional insurance.
When we picked up on reflection it was all rushed on purpose, and getting us to look at damage and sign.
Had we received the document electronically straight away we would have questioned before returning the vehicle.
Google suggests
"Dear Avis Minion,
I declined the additional insurance at collection but appears to have been inadvertently charged for it. Please can you refund?
Love and kisses,
FunkyDunc"
In my experience you need to initial next to additional charges for exactly this reason.
Hmm been through there internal complaints and they were not interested
Oh. Credit card company, then?
bit off topic, but with the rise of AI image editing and generation, I wonder how long the protective measure of taking photos of your rental car is going to be useful?

Yeah but won't AI be able to detect if images have been altered by AI...
Either that or Polaroids will be back in fashion.
