You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
We're off there in a couple of weeks for a cycling holiday - who's good to use? Cheers
I am on the mainland so cannot help but take out your own excess cover or you will get stung at the airport on collection. Avoid the cheapest, if poss get confirmation beforehand your stand alone excess cover is sufficient.
I reckon half my villa renters this year got done for 100 a week excess protection, they are very pushy at the airport.
Good luck still hot here

Not used them in Mallorca but on the mainland I find Centauro pretty good. Get your excess insurance from here

I used Drivalia last time I was in Spain (Alicante), they were very good. They have an office in Majorca too. Off airport, so you just grab a shuttle and off you go. Not the cheapest, but the service we got was good and the car was decent.

Couldn't believe the pushiness at Faro (Portugal) this year. I had already taken excess insurance, with one of the major UK insurance underwriters, and despite waving the paper at the guy i still had to refuse it with increasing degrees of ****-off-edness, eight times.
When he finally conceded he then threatened me with 'but just so you know, when you bring it back we will find something wrong with it that won't be on your policy so you will pay anyway'
I can well imagine how folks get bullied into taking it.
Yes spot on, they say they don't accept independent excess cover and all sorts, clearly commissioned up. Avoid the cheapest and speak with them before so you avoid the big fight.
Another one is they need to take 2000e deposit off your card, oh dear you don't have 2k credit spare, you have to take our v expensive protection.
So take 2 cards, your own excess protection at 40 gbp pa, and clearance by email you are excess self insured.
Be aware of stand alone XS cover with low budget rentals, Goldcar in my case. At check-in they will find faults, even the tiniest chip will get picked up and charged for.
You must be extra thorough at checkout.
I got stung €250 which I don't think will be paid out by the xs company. It may even affect my UK NCB since I will have made a UK claim.
I'm out there at the moment, back tomorrow.
We went with Centauro, took full to full option and insurance through Axa. Jumped in their minibus outside the airport, 5 mins to the office, knocked back their insurance at the desk. Check over the car before start of journey and pointed out some scratches on the rear bumper which made the guy smile and take note on the hire agreement.
Car has been great for getting about this stunning island, I'm not a roadie but OMG the road from Pollenca to Soller, holy fek.
Centauro at PMI are excellent.
No issues with pushy insurance, no queues, short bus to their off airport centre.
I recommended this on the last thread - http://www.terryscarhire.com/. No hassle - just pick up and drop off in the airport carpark. Didn't speak to anyone or get hassled for anything. Older car as well, so less worry about small marks etc.
My experience was Goldcar too. Lost a customer for next time.
Portugal's changed in the 30-odd years I've been going there (my parents have timeshare). One of the first trips we made, a battered old 4 x 4 reversed into us in a car park, got out, shrugged, got back in and drove off. We called the rental company and all they were bothered about was whether it was drivable. The fact the rear door wouldn't open? Just climb over. When we took it back they were just like 'shit happens, driving here's awful, at the end of the season we'll get all the cars in, swap panels over to create a few good ones and respray them, and the rest we'll scrap'. The returns counter looked like the end of a stock car race.
