Has anyone rented a car there and can they make any suggestions?

We're going for 10 days in August and would be interested in hiring one for a few days, not the whole period. We'll be staying in Budva so hopefully lots of options to hire locally.

If anyone has any recommendations or tips for hire places, and general driving around that would be much appreciated.

TIA

I've been twice but both times hired cars at Dubrovnik airport. There's multiple car hire places near Tivat airport that's not far from Budva.

Roads near the coast were busy, inland pretty deserted. Driving standards were variable and locals seemed happy enough to overtake pretty much anywhere inland and drink driving appears common. By the coast there's regular speed traps.

We flew in to Tivat 3 weeks ago and hired Europcar from the airport

Budvs is a big city so I would imagine there is car hire there, it’s a good 40 mins from the airport on a good day. Whilst we were there some of the traffic was horrendous and it looked like that journey would take 1.5hrs

Worth a trip over to Kotor, Lovcen National Park, we liked wandering past the super yachts in Tivat harbour

The driving is interesting, just be aggressive or you will be squashed

Have to say I wasn’t a fan of Budva, although did have a great kebab on the beech front. The beech itself was my idea of hell, unless you like 1sq meter of sand to yourself

We did a canoe trip from Budva just around the coast a bit which was fun.

Also a boat trip from Kotor to the able Cave and submarine bunkers

We want to go back again. We would spend 2 days near Kotor on the west side of the bay and then head inland, the interior is beautiful and quiet.

Search my post on here a few weeks ago asking about biking, it covers off all the places you would want to drive to as well.

Get a small car! Some of the roads are very very narrow with huge drops

Thanks, we’re staying at a hotel on the very edge of Becici, on the headland between the two. Are all the places you mention easily accessed by public transport? May be less stressful by the sounds of things!

No I don’t think so. There is a very good bus service from Tivat/Budva/Kotor but I’m not sure about to anywhere else.

Driving is ok not any worse than bad parts of Italy etc, just some of them don’t appear to understand that speed causes crashes, especially when you are on your phone!

Is a beautiful country you will miss out if you don’t hire a car as places are a bit remote from each other

Edit able cave should have read blue
