Looking for a cooking stove to take camping in the car (I have a tiny trangia for proper camping). Does anyone have any recommendations? Does anyone know of any online bargains?

Some sort of gas bottle system seems like the best idea to me, but i'm open to suggestions.

Cheers.

We've got a Cadac safari, its a good bit of kit. Includes the extras to make it into -

camping stove
Mini BBQ
Non-stick flat grill
Non-stick ribbed grill
Wok for stir fries

Think we paid about £45 from go Outdoors

I've got one of these which is nice if you just want to burn what's around you. Need batteries though and can be a bit hard to control

Do you want something light/compact/camping like or something a bit more substantial?

We use a Sunngas camp stove/cooker thing & it does the job well. It costs £60 or so & runs off a small calor bottle, so you'll need to outlay for one of those, plus a regulator. It's a twin burner jobbie with grill & is ideal for a fried breakfast!

For trips on my own Ive got a: JETBOIL.

If I need to cook for more people, and want to pack light, and be able to regulate flame and temperature then I take my MSR DRAGONFLY.

if you are car camping, get once of those gas hob type things from Blacks/Tiso's, but ive never had the need as I usually just use the dragonfly for everything, other than solo trips.

Coleman do an unleaded 2 burner stove. Have had it for about 4 years and it is brilliant, very powerfull last holiday was with a 6 month old so loads of boiling of large pans etc to sterelize things and very cheap to run. I run ours on super unleaded at about £1.20 a litre. 5 litres did us a week with some to spare and as I said it was used a huge amount.

Nice and compact and all the dirty parts are nicely contained inside its metal case when packed up. No large gas bottles to lug around. Does need a bit of pumping to pressurise but its very simple really.
