The complementary on the new car has run out so looking for something, struck by the differential,

The AA quote £130 and rescue my car only £25. this was through a comparison site, so in theory should be for the same cover.

Anyone got any advice on who to avoid.

Try adac a German recovery company, 99 euros for you and your partner anywhere in Europe, including uk, any car covered, we got cover as we have a motorhome and that's covered as well
When you phone from uk, rac or as come out for you

Blimey that's a good deal including euro stuff!
It's also worth looking at the cash back sites, my full rac cover this year will end up costing me £40 instead of £100. topcashback is who I've used but there are plenty more.

If you ever need to use the cover I'd avoid AA and RAC, both took 1.5+ hours for M-way assistance. Green flag were with me in under 30 mins.

Maybe because I had wife and kids with me for the GF rescue they expedited but either way when my complimentary cover runs out I'll be back to GF.
GF also don't mess you around if you need a tow - I got a tow home, then an onward tow the following day when I'd sorted out where the car was getting repaired.
RAC IIRC only offered to tow me to one garage of my choice so I couldn't shop around. I think it was the same with the AA but cant remember if I'm honest.

There is more to consider than just cost of cover

Its difficult to recommend a good breakdown / roadside recovery company.
But "Anyone got any advice on who to avoid." Autoexpress have:

Went with Autoaid this year, not had to use them yet (touch wood). Good price and from the above review seem to provide a decent service.

this is the thing, it is one of those things you never want to use, for most i guess you pay your money and nothing happens. I am just interested in the f***ups really, and whether it makes any difference how much you pay. If they are all equally crap why pay a premium?
