I park in a st about 10 mins walk from work.
I generally park at the bottom, just as double yellow lines start due to junction - means no-one should park on the yellows.
However, went back today to find a car parked right in front, tight enough that I could not walk between. The car behind me was also pretty close, given they likely assumed I would drive straight forward.
Luckily the owner of car in front (white 5 series BM with personalized plate if that helps...) was still in it so a relatively friendly "You're going to have to move your car so I can get out" meant he did move.
If said chap had not been in his car, what would the appropriate course of action be?
Hit his car window sufficiently hard to set the alarm off?
Call the Police, stating illegal parking, obstruction, etc?
I obviously do not want to damage my car, or cars front and rear....well the one in front would be fair game....
Public transport is not an option neither is cycling to work or car-sharing.....however, I may buy a wheel-clamp....
Engage first gear and ram the ****er.
You couldn't have done it as it was doubke yelliws in front.
Phone the police for some advice, im pretty sure they would enjoy dealing with an illegally parked car.
Do you suffer with anxiety?
You've created in your head a confrontation that didn't happen. This has then progressed to a series of hypothetical scenarios that probably wouldn't happen. Then you've felt it necessary to pose this randomness on a cycling forum (albeit in the chat section) seeking some kind of absolution and ending with a suggestion that you immobilise the obstructing vehicle to ensure you are trapped ad-infinitum. In your own head....

Even his reg doesn't give a ****

That's beautiful, and right to the point; but to be fair, there'd not be much going on around here if folk stopped doing that.
Or maybe it's 'I usually park here, this happened this time and it was fine, what should/could I do next time if I can't get out?'
Bumpers are for bumping.
AndrewH, I thank you.
Psling, I thank you for your query about my mental health. Yes, I do get anxious on occasion.
Police will help but I would adopt Parisian parking or parking in braille to get out
I had this while parked in Edinburgh overnight outside my flat a long time ago.
My car then was a Golf GTI but pretty tatty. Someone had parked overnight even later than me, on the double yellows. Engaged reverse, backed up, til contact made, then proceeded to reverse him further back so I could get out. Car left very marooned (and it wasn't even in Gorgie) on the yellows.
As has been stated ' go continental'
At least he didn't have a pop at you for parking so close to him 😉
Print off a bunch of these and stick one under the wiper, after you’ve extricated your car, of course...

This might be more relevant to the ST thread, but I'm a big fan of Ford's auto park thingy - got mine in a spot that I wasn't sure was long enough to fit in, but auto park thing said she'd have a go, took her a bit of backwards and forwards but she fitted with no touches, got out the same way too. 🙂
I rather like this note, too:

It's all about clutch control, and who has the strongest bumpers.. 😉
People and their ****ing cars. It really is absurd.
coulda mibbe wida, who cares, didnae happen, happy days. next...
Needs 3 mates (or willing passers by) but bouncing a car out of the way is simple and strangely satisfying.
Police 101, even if it's legally parked they will try and call the owner on your behalf. We use it at work sometimes when when we've had 2 or 3 visits and a car is preventing us from working.
Park somewhere else?
Still pissing off rubislaw locals ? Has the mad old woman stopped chucking bread over your cars yet ?
happened to me once in dundee when i was a scummy student only it was a tight fit when i parked in the last space between a wall and a car.... The next car left me a 1/4inch at the front and i only had a couple inches at the back.
1.8drotbox fiesta vs volvo 340 . Engage 1st make contact and push. Do it slow and no damage on either bumper. Both poverty spec black bumpers
Bumpers are for bumping thats why colour coded bumpers are bad mmmkay
Years ago I was in Bath with a mate, we’d parked in a little car park just over the river from the station, it only has around ten marked spaces, that tapered outwards from a high wall and we’d nabbed an empty one close to the narrow end. When we got back someone had parked nose first against the wall, between the two rows of marked spaces and left roughly three feet of space on our side. As there were cars either side, there was little room to manoeuvre, but we did our best, with lots of back-and-forth going on.
We were sorry about the compression dent we left in the other car’s front door, just not very sorry.
Do what they do in France - cars have bumpers for a reason
Get a buddhist monk to immolate themselves on the town hall steps.

I don't condone this personally, but LOL at that statement!
Car blocked in whilst parked. What to do?

Park in a parking space, rather than littering the streets? </STW>

This. Makes F all difference its was a BMW, you just wanted to invoke some STW responses by mentioning that.
Low form of trolling IMO, D-
Luckily the owner of car in front (white 5 series BM with personalized plate if that helps…) was still in it
So you weren't inconvenienced at all. So what is the problem here?
Car left very marooned (and it wasn’t even in Gorgie) on the yellows.
I
what you did there
Kryton, yes, I kept that fact intact.
Looking at some of the responses, it's interesting to see how some folks respond to a specific question about how to deal with a specific situation - whether actual or potential.
TR, no work in a different part of town now...only issue may be inconsiderate illegal car-parkers... How is work in 'the oil' at the mo? Feels like things picking up a bit.
Looks that way. I side shifted to Africa about 18 months ago to avoid redundancy. Now applying to get back out -possibly even out the oil industry if opportunity rears its head
As anyone who's worked in Africa will know. You get typecast. So I get responses along lines of "that position has been filled but we have xyz here in Africa if your interested"
I
How ever these last couple weeks have seen a marked increase in the number of jobs going for my skillset with realistic wages attached. -last 6months or so I've seen limited numbers of jobs with write the theme tune play the theme tune sing the theme tune and then go offshore with it. All for little above Min wage -- seriously the job spec had under responsibilities "needs to be able to when required collect materials from suppliers , do simple machine work , QA/QC , assembly test and go offshore......" I know a man who could do all that and even he laughed at the wage on offer
Also finding out of industry Jobs appearing more often as I assume folk from them head back off shore
