Hi all, Patagoinia is generally a bit too costly for me, but I picked up one of those 'Capilene Cool light daily LS mens tee shirts' in marl light grey at Pedal Syndicate in Mommouth at an amazing price. £25 I think. It’s a really nice shirt with silky feeling fabric and it doesn’t get smelly like a lot of synthetics. I suppose that the "capilene" treatment. I hope it's not killing me.
Anyhow there seem very few on the ground without daft slogans or logos nowadays, searching online isn't very successful, I wonder - has anyone found anything similar in feel and pong resistance. Not too spendy.
I know merino works super well, but when its real hot, this stuff is better than the merino tops I have.
thanks
I had an older one of those that I wore as a base layer for commuting for years, it was excellent in loads of conditions, and honestly probably worth the money. It did eventually wear so thin it pretty much fell apart though. I'll probably get another this winter in the end.
Merino can be good, but you get varying levels of thickness, quality and cut from people and it's a roller coaster as to whether washing it gives you a dolls sized item at the end. I've also had tops with huge necks, miles of arms and short bodies, the howies ones from a million years ago were epic though.
I'm surprised you're not finding them online, but you'll need to be patient to get them at that price again
Lots of t shirts by Montane and Rab have anti-pong technology built in. For example:

or
I assume many other brands have the same.
Needlesports are knocking them out for £30 atm.
I prefer the Mountain Equipment take, better cut for me (in XL).
The Patagonia ones last a lot better, and are ok for everyday use
I'm a real fan of Capeline baselayer. I've had many, of different weights and purposes, over the years. I used to have access to pro account with them, so permanent 40% off and often clearance deals direct with Ireland or Paris HQ, therefore was dressed head to toe in their kit for years
However, I'm not a fan of Patagonia cut (boxy) or prices. I also had two really bad experiences with warranty - despite all their advertising they asked for one item to be posted to Portugal for repair of failed zip at my cost, and I turned up at one of their repair days to be refused a repair on the grounds it was a European model softshell, not a UK model (who knew...)....
I feel many other companies have caught up in quality and sustainability, and have better cut/fit, and cheaper. Patagucci for me is now all marketing and not too much performance and certainty not much value.
YMMV.
