No worries, it definitely is 'all about the rider'.
Mate of mine hasn't been off road on a bike in 15 years, he raced BMX up to being about 13 & he is now 40. He's just bought a cheap £250 mtb (new) & i took him to our nearest trail centre. He nailed all the black runs, cleared all the doubles & table tops (he even scrubbed several jumps). He made all but one of the technical climbs. I've raced bmx, mx and mtb and class myself as a half decent rider, but he left me for dust. The whole experience was both demoralising and refreshing.
Ssssssshhhhh, don't tell STWers that. They'll get upset!
Presumably he doesn't even own an Audi? 😯
Now THAT is refreshing to hear on this forum, tell him Huge well done from me 😀
Ha! Reminds me of when I was at Golding Barn MX track a good few years ago mucking around on the jumps. A lad turned up on an old low spec XC hardtail, long stem, flat bars, Rockshox Quadras etc. Gelled hair, stonewash jeans, Adidas T-shirt, Reebok classics, no helmet. As he rolled into the big drop in leading to a 30ft long table I thought "this isn't going to end well", 3 seconds later he was soaring over the jump sideways, cleared it easily, rear wheel flexed a good 6 inches as he set it down still out of line. He then did it did in similarly effortless fashion another half dozen times. Pretty good at BMX when he was younger too apparently. Books, covers etc.
