The 50mm thread reminded me I need to get my Canon 17-85mm looked at. Its coming up with the Err01 fault pretty much with every shot throughout the zoom range (on a 550d).
Anyone know a cost-effective repair agent based in Newcastle or the North East?

I beleive Chas Eagles in Sunderland have a repair service, or at least will take the lens and send it off for repair.
When I get a chance in the next week or so, I'm going to take my camera here for a sensor clean:

Have heard they're much cheaper for this than other places - will report back with general impressions.
Yeah, I've seen reports of a few different 'fixes' but in the long run most are a hardware issue of some kind. I'm not sure I'm brave enough for a full disassembly!
