An early Christmas present for Mrs.oxy and myself but what case?

Just got a basic lens at the moment but want to buy 24-105 zoom next.

Want a compact case to carry the camera on its own but also to be able to stick in the top of a rucksack for rides and quick draw-ness.

Anything better than the Crumpler quick escape 400, and will my camera fit? Many thanks 🙂

Must be some photographers out there?

I have a Lowepro Toploader for that kinda stuff. It's useful enough. Space for a few accessories, batteries, memory cards, and stuff like that. And small enough to fit in a decent sized rucksack.

I like Toploaders for carrying around a big lens but they take up a lot of space in a rucksack and aren't the best shape for carrying a spare lens. A wrap like this is easier to fit in when you don't need the straps, pockets, etc.

For a more conventional bag, look at a Lowepro Nova AW. In my experience the flat, wide shape fits better in a rucksack than the Toploader and one day you'll be grateful for that AW cover.

something a bit different to your usual Lowe alpine. I Might get one for Christmas.

My Toploader has an All Weather cover. It's been well tested too. Done a few all-dayers on the bike in the rain.

I'm not sure there's any Holy Grail though. TBH, I normally use my backpack these days, even if I'm just carrying the camera...

Probably not what you're looking for, but I have one of these for my DSLR - great for biking as it's sort of a cross between a rucksack and messenger bag and really easy to access the camera.
