My brother and I have just been given 2 canoes.  He lives a 10 minute walk from  the sea.

What's easiest way to get them there ?

Are you asking what is the best way to get them from your brother's to the sea or to get them to your brother's place. If the latter we need to know where the canoes are at present.

Where is Mattoutandabout when you need him? He has some great photos of ingenious ways of transporting canoes.

Is it downhill all the way? Get some wheels attached and enjoy somne Last of the Summer Wine style fun. Don't worry about how to get them back up the hill after, that's a probelm for later.

What sort of canoe.

Small surf/river boat then you can just shoulder it. I used to have an extra bit of foam in mine for portaging (I was a wimp so it was worthwhile 😉 )

Open canoes will have a yoke across it in the middle. Grow a beard, put on a checked shirt and carry it upside down on your shoulders.

Sea kayak, if light enough can be shouldered but it is harder to pick up and fun in the wind.

You can buy small trolleys for the purpose in any case,

It might be cheaper to make your own. Ideally it should fold down to go in the boat or be designed so you can use a bike lock on it so it is there when you need to walk home.

Well, rivers eventually flow to the sea. Take it to a nearby river and sit in it until you arrive at the sea?

Otherwise, trolley.

The proper answer

Local/walking distance, buy a good canoe trolley.

Car distance, do it properly with a good roof rack.
