😀

Or fry it up for breakfast. I was on a construction job on a colliery once (remember coal?) and the pit canteen served up yesterday's mash fried in little cakes with breakfast. Definitely nom nom.

bubble'n'squeak.

Beat the mash up with an egg, season, stir in smashed sprouts. Fry in fatal quantities of butter.

Mash freezes fine, we do it all the time. When you reheat it mix it part way through microwaving and add a little bit more butter.

You can freeze any food.

Whether it's still edible when you defrost it is another matter.

Day old mash is perfect for potato scones.

Awesome with a fried egg on top!

Spuds, yes, but whatever you do, never re-heat rice!

never re-heat rice

🙄 Sound like my missus ("That rice has been off the boil 5 minutes, I'm NOT eating that!!"). You can reheat rice, just do it properly.

Rice is fine re heated as long as you get it hot enough. Rice thats been kept warm is the stuff to avoid

never had a prob with it in cottage pie (frozen mash that is) though reheating is always a pain, microwaves needs water to work well and mash is usually quite dry so I usual blitz it in a frying pain with oil and butter.

A lot of scare stories about rice, but it's perfectly fine so long as you don't leave rice sitting around for a while at room temperature. Any left, quickly rinse, chill and/or freeze. Re-heat as necessary and it will be fine.

Even then it's just a risk depending on the spores being present that can generate the bacteria and you have to leave rice sitting around for a fair bit in the warm to generate the toxins.

Potato cakes, doesnt need to be old mash but it saves effort making it and waiting for it to cool.

Just add flour and kneed untill it resembles dough. Usually ends up slighly more mash than flour so don't start with too much mash. It needs to be dry not sticky. Roll it out to about 1cm thick.

Then take a good heavy frying pan or pizza stone and get it hot. Dust with flour and 'bake' on both sides untill its hot through and black/brown patches on the outside.

Also good with chopped roast beef and horseraddish in the mix.

Mash freezes fine, do it all the time. Give a mash with a fork once you've nuked it for eating, maybe add more butter/oil/milk/cream
