Now I admit I've caned coffee quite abit, love the stuff especially since I quit smoking years ago. Anyway recently I've noticed caffeine head aches if I have too much, jittery etc etc so I've cut back to sensible levels.

Anyway soon after I have a small black espresso now I get the irritable feeling, anxious etc. Have I become over-sensitive to caffeine? Is that possible?

Signed worried Manchester.

Go cold turkey and stay off it for a month (includes all caffine bearing foods & drinks). Horrible withdrawal. Then recommence at a more moderate intake.
PS: Chai tea is where its at.

Have you changed your diet recently?

Caffeine sensitivity is also a sign of pregnancy!

No but you can hide a pregnancy by eating. For a while ...

So, if you consumed vast amounts of jelly, could you conceive jelly babies?

I'm caffeine sensitive, feel right flighty after a coffee and I'm definitely not pregnant.

Ive gone from being a decaf wuss, to now supping this today:

[img] [/img]

used to get jitters, anxiety from too much caffein, but now cant get enough, maybe because of my current excercise regime (heavy weights, karate, cycling), seem to need it more.

Its probably a phase itll pass, or MTFU 🙂

Its nowt to do with the coffee, just lay off the crystal meth for a bit

And that coffee mug is a bit 'racey' for someone your age

Your sensitivity does vary quite quickly. So it could be that if you cut back a lot then you lost all your tolerance.

Also, the caffeine content varies hugely. Dark roasts that taste strong aren't necessarily the highest caffeine content, and espresso is not necessarily the highest caffeine either.

On top of that, there are quite a few different stimulants in coffee besides caffeine and they all behave differently.

Vit B helps if you drink lots of coffee.

I was put on to this 30 years ago. Seems to work, but now I limit myself to one coffee a day, so no problem.

I started getting panicky feelings and chest pains earlier this year which was of concern. Doctor suggested. Give up caffeine for a while and they went immediately. Withdrawal was shite though

I'd tried to quit smoking a few times but fell back into the trap once I was happy I could take or leave it.
I never had trouble with cravings or withdrawal when quitting the fags, but it was horrible last time. Really dark thoughts and physical unease, bad sleep patterns, cold like symptoms.
It wad really bad on the 3rd day and I then looked up caffeine withdrawal, as I had jacked that in at the same time. Turns out the symptoms fitted the lack of caffeine in my system!
Caffeine is crazy junk, and I now only use it before a big ride.

Hora, the answer is yes, definitely and I have it. After 20 years in recruitment, interviewing 1000 people a year and drinking triple shot coffees between 5 and 10 times a day, I am now massively sensitive to caffeine. I had to give up coffee completely about 24 months ago, it had got to the point that I couldn't stray further than 100 metres from a loo and nothing was staying inside for long enough to get any nutrients. I thought I had bowel cancer, lets leave it at that. After 4 colonoscopies it was clear that I didn't. A friend who is a senior GI nurse (very senior) said, "you do drink a lot of coffee and diet coke Sean, I think you should give up" I did, within a month, I was 100% better, the problem was I fell off the wagon about 14 months ago. Whoops. Bad, bad mistake. All kicked off again big time, and I got properly ill, to the point that I collapsed and got rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack, again, it wasn't but I had crippling low hemaglobin levels resulting in anaemia, this was brought about by the gut reaction to the coffee but I hadn't really taken it all in. In short, with a Haemoglobin level of about 9 (should be 13) I was in a world of hurt and no wonder I was riding like a 90 year old. Off the coffee entirely (drink decaff only and tea) and am now 110%, feeling like a million bucks and honestly 20 years younger.

In short, yes, it is a drug, you can definitely react to it and it is hugely addictive.

My name is Sean and I am a coffee addict, its been 4 months and 17 days since my last espresso.

I can't drink coffee or red bull etc as it makes me feel really ill, palpitations, brad pitts, nausea, headaches, light headedness etc

Weird that I can drink tea, which has the same amount of caffeine as coffee?!

Years ago - my first boss always looked ****ed. She was only 23 but looked about 33+. Her eyes etc, wired. She drank coffee throughout the day and we took turns making brews. I switched hers to decaff (out of concern tbh)and she started looking way better, with no issues a sort of placebo effect? Anyway told her, she flipped and she went into coffee even more. 😐

Hora - if you're looking at the same things as me, you've got to remember that's per 8oz serving. I drink espresso daily but in espresso mugs!

Also googleing caffeine soap...

Different cocktail of alkaloids though, as mentioned above.

I know someone who binged on coffee too much at Uni, and as a result he can no longer even touch coffee without coming down in horrendous sweats and shakes - to the point he can't even eat chocolate!

Hora, have you considered getting an IV drip set up so you can have it pumped directly into the bloodstream?

Day 3 cold turkey. Yesterdays ride I felt empty/exhausted. I even tried squats with pook sat on my shoulders to wake my legs. All I kept muttering was 'could murder a cup of tea right now' 😆

I tried fitting some of those fiddly race blade mudguards to my road bike after a few cups of that Taylors Java stuff, messy.

That restaurant espresso in the chart is purely dependant on what bean is used. As said previous the caffeine levels are variable depending on bean.

i'm caffeine sensitive, if I have to much (more than three cups a day) mixed with a couple of fizzy cokes i'll feel like crap. I had a food intolerance test years ago which confirmed it. Last August I managed to get myself of full fat coke after a 4 week cold turkey. Caffeine is nasty shit and the withdrawal from it is awful.

Where I can I drink decaf, tetley's decaf tea is really nice

I used to drink a lot of coffee, but these days I usually restrain myself to one double espresso or a cappuccino in the morning. Any more than that and my head spins, and hands shake!

Why does strong coffee make me want to open my bowels? Must remember to ask my cycling buddy, he's a gastroenterologist.

it just makes your colon go into peristalstic overdrive and your sphincter twitch.
that's why people (sickos) have coffee enemas.
