Roksy has had her dinner, but never quite satisfied.....

Dogs are funny the way they have different characters..... it's nearly a year since our white schnauzer Rafa passed....he thought he was human....but Roksy seems to think that we are dogs...
They're funny. Our hound carries on like she works a high-pressure 40 hour week.

Kiwi’s hair is coming back. She is less itchy and the Malassezia (yeast) infection is going so she isn’t as smelly! DNA test been taken for a bit of entertainment. Total of 40kg of dog on the sofa now!
Warning - spaniel incoming. Huey off the lead and heading back at full chat.

It's a long way from here to the beach, so an open field has to suffice most days, but when I call and wave the bag of carrots, he's generally pretty good on the recall. 'Generally' being relative. Sight of a rabbit or hare would probably change that very suddenly.
That's Max that is, waiting for a bit of faggot at the Tywi Bridge Inn.
Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our 17 year old Welsh Collie on Wednesday. Her health had been failing for the last few months, and we'd been warned by the vet that the end was drawing near. We had a great week's holiday with her up in Braemar, visiting some of her favourite spots, including this lovely afternoon at the Linn of Dee, where she puddled about in the water and watched our young Collie chasing balls and swimming. She took a turn for the worse on Sunday night, so we came home on Monday and, after a trip to the vet on Tuesday morning, we knew the end had come. Wednesday was pretty emotional; she wanted to go for a little walk round our neighbours, then came home and fell asleep wrapped in her favourite blanket in our back garden, while I cuddled her in my arms in the sunshine. She slept peacefully until it was time to take her to the vet one last time, where she was gently helped into her final sleep. We miss her massively, but so glad she had such a gentle ending.

What a lucky dog, one last paddle, one last lap and a cuddle.
She looks like a very lovely hound.
@ditch_jockey- tough times but she's clearly had a brilliant life. Outliving your pets is so damn hard.
We have muddy active dogs, and lazy, sleepy dogs today

Those 2 on the hill again. Nice evening

This little chap will be coming to live with us soon!

Oh wow
Tiny! What breed is he?
Been a muddy week walk wise. Roxie had been re-introduced to the (warm) hose before being let inside. After which she heads for her favourite bean bag 🙂

Kiwi DNA update. Mostly terrier but with a few oddities thrown thrown in there too! JRT is clearly dominant as she gets bigger and the hair is coming back.
She now refuses to wear a jumper and instead uses her big brother for warmth instead

My dog really, really loves a tennis ball.

PSA : just ordered a Crumb tag for the hound. It's a QR code that you set up with your dogs details, currently free to order and the postage was £3.
We've just come back from dog central AKA Whitstable in Kent. Dogs are hugely popular and welcome in the vast majority of places, we had a fantastic weekend with a special shout to the Twelve taps who made Herbert "dog of the day" and had a wonderful array of beers and gins.
Tags arrived today. The wire loop that connects onto them is a bit flimsy but they’re otherwise good. Setup process was easy enough, though they try and trap you into a £7 a month subscription.

My missis got one. I asked her what the point was when he has a tag on his collar with a phone number.
"Ah, but he doesn't always wear his collar!"
Er....
And yeah, free tag is a loss leader just to get you to sign up for the monthly subscription.
We are starting to regret the colour of Roxie 😉 If only for wear and tear on the hosepipe!

@Sui that is a petwalk dog door. It's the only passive house approved pet flap I've found. I've had dog flaps for years in various houses and been increasingly frustrated with how utterly crap they all are. They're a security nightmare (I used to climb in our old one to scare the wife), always leak air like they're not actually there and end up covered in mud and hair. The petwalk is electrotonically activated by rfid tags on the dog's collars so there's no need for them to touch it, sealed from the weather like an Austrian front door and is generally beautifully engineered. The dogs just approach it and it does the door man thing for them automagically. I even get a notification on my phone to say "Cassie opened the dog door from inside". You can change how long it stays open for, get it to disable itself when its raining or trap them outside for a while if you need. It's bloody brilliant.
When we moved in here, with it's stupendously bad insulation, I couldn't bring myself to hack a hole in the wall that I knew I was going to spend weeks sealing up with Kingspan, foil tape and new plaster, so I hid the exuberance in with some building materials. Quite a lot of building materials. Still, it was cheaper than a log burner...
thanks @hot_fiat , that's quite the investment for a dog flap, though can undersand why you did!

Oscar knew I had some cheese in the pub.
Pre hair cut and nail trim.. he's so cute with longer hair, but he's a little stinker!!!

Our house grew by 4 paws yesterday with the arrival of the gorgeous Cyril, a lab x golden retriever who is almost as tall as our german shepherd. The boys are getting on famously well, we'll see how there first walk together goes (should be fine as we meet up for a weekly walk usually).
We have been out and about this week, stopping off for a coffee in Findra.
Many questions about breed as per usual. Always surprised when I say she's pure Mongrel ?
Lost our old lurcher 6 months or so ago, still miss her everyday.

Annual trip to St David's to see friends, Bert loves a good walk here and obviously a nice snooze afterwards!

Huey's first day back on the sand in Lower Largo at the start of a fortnight of (mainly) beach walks. He'll get a day or three in St Andrews, probably a trip to Edinburgh on the train and an assortment of coast path wanderings. Fish n chips in Anstruther is a fair bet too

Today it's raining so I am not moving......

Yeah we have to (warm water) hose down the 'white grizzly' most days. Every 3 of 4 we get the dog shampoo out. She looks/smells great then. For about 10 minutes into the next walk where she enthusiastically dive bombs the biggest mud swamp she can find. Reminds me of our old Lab who we once carried upstairs and tried to bath. Never tried that again 🙂
Roxie has a new dog blanket. She's been using Lola's but she's outgrown it as you can see. When we put Lola in the XL version of the one she has, it's basically a tent! As we mostly drive a few miles to meet our friends/other dog walkers most days, these things are brilliant at keeping the car a bit cleaner, and the dogs seem to like them as well. Colour chosen as it was cheapest one in the sale in the Hereford pet shop, as its going to be brown by this time tomorrow anyway!

Oscar made a new friend last night.

Fun was had by the look of that
@anono - yeah we've got one like that 🙂

Walked with two 7 month old male labs yesterday. They were quite boisterous:) Roxie ran away to start with, but then took them down one by one when she realised she's about 5kg heavier 🙂

The winter duvet is in the bed, the burrowing slug is absolutely rinsing the hell out of naps now.
I like this as it shows clean teef. Which makes me very happy, shows the level of trust we have that she lets me get in there with the tartare remover and scrap the crap out.

Good looking teef there! We use dental chews knowing they are just marketing guff, so end up with the dog toothbrush which sometimes goes well, but mostly goes into the garden as either or both mutts steal the brush and go and bury it somewhere 🙂

*Some assembly required.
🙂 Very much so. Sadly the brain was not included in the kit. Currently sharing Lola's single braincell!
Cross posting from the not putting the heating on thread....some disagreement with current thermostat settings
At the bottom of p15, Huey was just starting his fortnight in Fife, and here we are already not far off going home in a couple of days. So I got him out on the rocks as the tide was coming in this morning:-

In the meantime, he's had lots of admirers in all the touristy shops in St Andrews this afternoon. And now he's knackered, spark out flat in his bed for the evening.

Howling with glee as iPhone photo look up is suggesting Tod may not be the Labrador we thought he was…
Jesus, have you hooked kiwi up to a kite?!
Ghost dog walker?

Willow loving the woods around Cawdor. Daughter in law has named them “Tick Woods” with good reason. I took six off Willow after the walk, and found one in my beard later.
Kiwi is on the dreaded retractable lead. Sadly her recall when faced with something as exciting as a wide open beach isn’t there yet!
our Labrador does the Schrödinger thing too! Both getting on and off the sofa!
Away for the weekend to avoid the fireworks. Staying in a lovely property on the Capheaton estate, our neighbours are doing the same, they also have a Greyhound.
Stacey is knackered from the Uber zoomies she's had. Getting her to the pub might be an effort tonight.

In Mauritius which has a rep for stray dogs. They’re everywhere but not in numbers, mostly individual. In the resorts, on the beaches and out and about on the streets. They’re absolutely no bother, don’t approach you and there’s no dog shit anywhere. Which makes me think there’s nowt wrong with dogs, just the humans attached to them.

are we there yet?

Happy "birthday" to this big dude!
(he's a rescue so we have no idea when his actual birthday is, or how old he is)
The moose survived about 4 minutes ?
Watching for heathens North of the wall

This house is missing a full loaf of lemon drizzle cake.
I wonder where it went...

We did some play whilst on the walk, it was a quiet evening.

I think this picture speaks for itself.
I'm dog sitting today, she normally stays with me but she wandered off. Found her lying in the sun. She doesn't normally go on the settee even when I'm there .

Son has a new job up in Cawdor so we went to explore the “Secret Beach” at Nairn. Willow and Tod loving he empty beach. Not enough space for Buck so I’ll post him separately.
