The hound hasn't been that fussed for it this year. We've also had a couple of paw injuries that may have made her less than enthusiastic about the white stuff.

She has found her groove in front of the fire though.

Mine went for his yearly MOT/vaccination/worming today, got told off by the vet as he needs to lose about half a kilo...which doesn't sound a lot, but his breed should only be about 7-7.5 kilos, so half a kilo is quite a lot for a small dog.

He's not going to like being put on a diet, the diet being me not giving him as many intra-meal treats.

We said goodbye to our dog this morning after just over 16 years (not bad for a spaniel). The vets were brilliant, and it was very calm and pain free, but one of the hardest things I've ever had to witness. We might have gone a few more days, or a week, or a month, but everything about him was failing.

Sorry to hear that – we have a King Charles / Cocker cross and she has just turned nine. Yesterday she went to the vet again for x-rays and ultrasound scans as she has been unusually quiet for the last few months. Turns out it is arthritis in her spine and her heart is enlarged (we knew she had a murmur, but it has got a bit worse). She's now on four different sets of medication. Fortunately we have seen an improvement, but that's only because all the pain meds are masking the discomfort 🙁

@littlerob I'm so sorry to hear that - it's a year (and 2 days) since we lost Barkley at 14, and I could still burst into tears about it even now, unfortunately you can expect the dog-shaped hole to last some while yet. By the same token, 16 is a damn good age for a spaniel, so well done on giving him all the love & life for that long.

Inthe meantime, Huey's made a new woolly friend this morning 20250111_130034

This scamp has noticeably put on weight over Christmas, not helped by snacks of toast and chicken etc between meals the last few days, so he's been on an unaccustomed 5 mile stroll this morning. Hopefully he'll sleep tonight and not insist on going out at 2am to check that the back garden is still where he left it. Little sod.
