Lola has done the mincepie trick…
…Twice…
…In one day
eduardo the Golden Retriever once ate a big, airport size Toblerone. Foil and all .
No apparent ill effects outside the glittery poos...
I came to this thread hoping for good responses to 'Can we have a dog ?' questions (supporting the 'no' argument = too expensive/ no-one will walk it / I just asked the cat and he vetoed it). Not much help !

Ah but did you have to phone the vet twice and take him in for an emetic twice in one day?
Lola doesn't eat foreign objects. She spits them out. The only non food item was a pepperami inner wrapper that came out all folded up on the end of a perfectly healthy turd.
On that note. Lola has never done a bad poo all of them have been between a 3 and 5. I put it largely down to her bugbakes diet but thats weird right?
Youngest is limping a bit so been put on forced rest, if she is let out to run she will forget that it hurts and make it all worse.

What's the carbon footprint of running a dog? I suppose a medium sized one?

Even less if it's a greyhound.
I dunno. How much do they eat.
Lola gets cold pressed insect pellets (and lives thrm)
I can't do much more diet wise to offset her food intake. I just have to offset her in different ways.
Depends on size, as Greys go Stacey is on the small side, some of them are big old units.
She's on 500g/860 cal a day, her food is a meat & veg mix split to twice a day. We've looked at other foods and tried some, when we adopted her she was in a pure raw diet, which was fine when she was racing but we've modified it to suit her lifestyle now. We can't do much more in terms of diet.
Treats are kept to a minimum, usually something that assists with teeth cleaning, she's a fan of bones from the local butcher.
Keeps her in good health and condition, although she has developed an unstable toe joint which may need an amputation.
We didn't consider the impact of driving as a reason to walk her from the house, it suited us more to get our legs moving because we have good spaces within 20 minutes, and she loves the sniffs on the way.
She shows no interest in toys so we don't waste money on plastic tat either. As dogs go she's low impact, low maintenance.

Well i can recommend BugBakes if you haven't tried them. Dogs seem to be ? in favour or not. The driving thing is hard. We occasionally drive her to a couple of places that are nearbye at fully deer fenced so she can be truly off lead without having to watch her like a hawk. But considering i can walk into glentress after crossing one road its really rare.
Roksy had an unscheduled visit to the vets because mincepies
She had a morphine based emetic that might make her a little sedated…but actually I think she’s off her teats
Mince pies and morphine? BEST DAY EVER!!! 😀
Mince pies and morphine? BEST DAY EVER!!! ?
I dunno have you watched them go through it. Its a heart wrenching thing to watch
The mince pie incident was one of the small animal vets (or atleast often in the surgery) she moped around a bit then vomiting everywhere lots of paper towels used in the clean up.
The proving sourdough incident the out of hours vet was one of the farm vets gave her the shot and pointed to the door muttering something about getting the hose.

Sounds grim...when I took mine to the vet for the same thing they said its best I wait in reception whilst they do it... from what I gather the morphine is dosed just right to make them violently sick, to purge anything in the stomach... doesn't sound nice.
Dog seemed fine when he came out shortly afterwards though.

I'm updating my list to Santa as we speak...

I thought a Toyota landcruiser was the standard STW answer to that question?! 😉

Medium dog though.

Barney's never managed to get hold of anything in the house, although not for want of trying. Closest he came was finding a roast chicken carcass in a hedge row, fortunately I managed to grab him before he ran off with it and the surprise of being turfed upside down onto his back with my hand in his mouth meant he gave it up fairly easily. I ended up covered in slobber, chicken grease and mud, he wandered off licking his lips.....
I've been at the vets when he's come round after being sedated though, he was not happy (neither was I to be fair), lots of whimpering, moping and cuddles.

But she seems to have had no ill effects. She also had to have charcoal gloop in her meals. Today was turd checking day, and it looked like best Dyffryn nutty slack.

My MiL's working cocker is a bit of a handful, and goes freelancing on walks. Then one day he's struggling to squeeze out the next carriage, but there seems to be a bit of string....so my MiL, using a poo bag, gives it a helpful tug and it turns out to be the rest of a dead rat attached to the tail.
Lovely photos !
Stacey is rocking the new style jumper, it looks really practical. A friend's dog has elbow dysplasia and he's definitely been limping more in the colder weather - I'll show her the photo. Doubt Cyril will want to wear it though
The walk to the pub wasn’t so stylish.
Did you tell him it was the landladys night off?
Lola is hoping Roxie will receive the gift of 'understanding personal space' for Xmas, but we're pretty sure she won't 🙂
Excellent pics (and jumpers) in this thread. Roxie looks like she's about to go into her first season. Not ideal timing!

Grace is convinced my lunch is actually hers.

Her first season started the day we arrived at my parents place in denmark at Christmas last year.

I do like swinging by this thread every now and then to see people's lives being enriched by dogs.
Piemonster, that shaddow looks like something you should nuke from outerspace
She is 🙂
She has also beem the easiest dog to train as she is such a pleaser and very cuddly.
This is her older half sister that is brilliant but harder work as she will do stuff if she likes it not to please you.
Luckily for my archery she do like to find arrows.

My sister in law has been having some struggles with mental health issues. Went out for lunch yesterday, Henry an absolute hero doing a bit of emotional support dogging. He absolutely adores her anyway.

You cant beat a doggy cuddle
Got to fuss a friend's dog today and the world suddenly became a better place.
Oscar was bought as a gift from my parents to help with my mental health, he come along at the right time as he was there for mu final year at work and from when I went off until retirement. Dogs offer some much love without judgement, Oscar however is genuinely affectionate just has so much love.

Mine went to the groomers on friday for a sheering...he looks like a different dog, but his fur grows so fast I tend to let it grow long enough until it really needs to be done, and then just get him shaved really short.

And Matilda guarding her other presents from Sandy!

Merry christmas.

She loves opening things, her sister just barks at the pressent until someone opens it for her.

We have a houseful this year, the novelty is currently paused while Stacey has a quick recharge nap.

Excellent Christmas Doggo pics 🙂
Here's Roxie enjoying a misty Xmas walk with her present to us something disgusting she rolled in! Now clean and chewing happily on the antler we bought. Although we had to separate her and Lola as she felt that BOTH antlers were her present 🙂

Rosie took full advantage of a lie-in opportunity and had to be prised off the bed to go out for a wee at half 10.

Went to the park. Did her mad lurcher thing for about 10 seconds including a powerslide across the grass. Home for a Christmas snuffle mat

this lad joined the family 5 days ago from a rescue. He's 14 months and already the kids protector. So mild mannered, though needs a fair bit of lead work.

@sui - best present ever!
Also I'm struggling with the concept of a 'leftover roasty' - not a thing in our house 🙂
Dog's did well with leftovers yesterday. Then the Sofa claimed Lola like a Venus fly trap!

Not massively impressed 🙂

@Sui He's a fine fellow, 12 months should see you right on basic lead work. The Spotty Fool stilll hasn't grasped it 4 years in but you have a dog breed with some intelligence and ours is pretty but dim!

Was not untill the 3 trip that our oldest decided to go for a wee on that ferry.
Seems most will not, did see one Pug poop on the carpeted area after they had spend half an hour out on deck lol
Had these two staying for a couple of weeks. House now clean, tidy, calm and quiet now they've gone home! Sidney aged 10, and Frankie aged 10 weeks.

I really want a puppy*, the dream is that... two pups curled up on the sofa beside us. until recently Lola has been a bit of a question mark about other dogs. After 2 years she's improved immensely.
And the other day she met our neighbours border terrorist pup. By meet i mean she ignored it being carried then eventually she stood up on her hind legs and gave a lovely little sniff welcome.
So it might be on....
*Rescue only for us.
There's only one thing better than a dog. And that's two dogs
